Can’t Apple’s design guru catch a break? After Jony Ive received a well-deserved promotion to become Apple’s chief design officer, some pundits misinterpreted the happy news as a bad omen.
Our own Leander Kahney reads the tea leaves completely differently: Ive’s promotion is nothing but good news for Apple.
In fact, elevating Ive’s status on the corporate totem pole means Apple will get even more great design work out of him. You can expect even more delightful, world-changing products from the guy who’s always emphasized technology’s most human elements.
Find out why this is definitely not the end of the Jony Ive era at Apple, in this week’s edition of Kahney’s Korner.

Fire this moron. He ruined the iOS!
@ NewHampshire That´s funny!
Jony Ive is a master of his game and deserves a promotion, in fact i would be surprised if one day he takes over the whole show.
IOS will eventually change OS X into it… in ways of design. Since the raise of mobile and touch interfaces, more and more people will use some mobile device most of the time (don’t they already?).
The slow seeping style of IOS into OS X will eventually make it unison. Certainly the last updates, proved that to be the tendency. It would be a clear step backwards if we went back to skewmorphism…
Cyber-punk interface? No, thank you.
