iOS 26.3.1 is ready to be installed on your iPhone starting Wednesday. Mac users got macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 at the same time. The new versions include bug fixes — which are always welcome. And iPad users can install iPadOS 26.3.1, too.

In addition, all three system software updates bring support for the Apple Studio Display monitors that just launched.

iOS 26.3.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.3.1: Bug hunting

Regular bug-fix updates for iOS, macOS and iPadOS are an essential part of maintaining the reliability and security of Apple’s ecosystem. Even minor software flaws can cause crashes, drain battery life, create compatibility issues with apps or open the door to security vulnerabilities.

By routinely identifying and patching these problems, Apple helps ensure that iPhone, Mac and iPad users enjoy stable performance and that developers can build software on a dependable platform. These updates may not introduce flashy new features, but they play a crucial role in keeping devices running smoothly, protecting user data and extending the useful life of the hardware.

Hence the release of iOS 26.3.1, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 and iPadOS 26.3.1 — and the importance of users installing them.

Still, Apple indicates that there are no security-related fixes in any of these.

For Studio Display users

These new versions do more than deal with bugs. They also support some new Apple hardware.

On Tuesday, Apple unveiled the Studio Display XDR, a high-end monitor enhanced with mini-LED backlights. And the Studio Display 2 also got announced.

The devices are more than simple screens. They include FaceTime cameras plus built-in microphones and speakers, and need to fully communicate with the Apple computers they are connected to. Both external screens went on sale on Wednesday, and so Apple needed to update a range of its operating systems with support for the new displays.

That’s a big reason why iOS 26.3.1, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 and iPadOS 26.3.1 came out today.

And support for new hardware is mostly what they do. Apple’s description for the new iOS version says, “This update expands external display support to include Studio Display (2026) and Studio Display XDR along with bug fixes for your iPhone.” The macOS and iPadOS descriptions are almost identical.

There’s no watchOS 26.3.1 version out now. Apple Watch can do a lot, but it’s not up to connecting to an external monitor. And visionOS 26.3.1 came out last week.

How to install iOS 26.3.1, macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 and iPadOS 26.3.1 today

iPhone and iPad users can install iPadOS 26.3.1 directly by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update. Alternatively, update your tablet by connecting it to a Mac (or to a PC running iTunes).

To download the macOS Tahoe update, go to Apple menu  > About This Mac. Then click Software Update. Alternatively, install the new version from the App Store. (Note: At the time of this writing, Apple had not yet updated the version of macOS in the App Store. But it should happen soon.)
