An Apple representative has met with a government-sanctioned consumer watchdog organization in Beijing, China to discuss the ongoing iPhone battery drain issues.
The issue in question relates to to iPhone 6s handsets which shut down with reportedly 30 percent of battery life remaining. The fault has been widely discussed, but the Chinese government has been particularly outspoken about the issue.
Apple, for its part, reportedly told the China Consumer Association (CCA) that the issue isn’t dangerous, that it is offering battery replacements, and that it has “progressed” in finding the root cause of the problem.
The CAA first contacted Apple about the issue back in November, when it said that Apple had to explain the reason for the malfunction within 10 days. It then followed up with a second later insisting that Apple fix the problem.
Apple has pinned the blame on a, “small number of iPhone 6s devices made in September and October 2015,” although it’s also since expanded this to cover a, “small number of customers outside of the affected range [who] have also reported an unexpected shutdown,” without releasing details.
It’s unknown why the issue is getting so much publicity in China, although the country is known to flex its muscles from time to time when foreign countries do something wrong. Apple has previously found itself facing off against Chinese officials when China ordered the shutdown of the iBook Store and iTunes Movies in the country, while also making sure Apple was booted from the government’s list of approved state purchases.

I usually don’t drain that much my battery .. 6s plus .. but my friend 6s had similar problems .. we thought that I was from the coold that we had this winter.. I mean that shutdown happened only when my friend used the device outside home
My 6+ worked perfectly until ios 10. After install, my battery would
drain 4% an hour in locked/standby. I used to recharge every 2 days (I
don’t use very much) but now I have to recharge once or twice a day. And
it takes longer to recharge. I did all the things to reduce battery
drain (I found on many forums) nothing helped. I re-installed OS several
times, no help. Also, amazon lightning cables that worked fine will no
longer work. It will only recharge on cables that come with the devices.
The unit is always warm (not hot). If I power it off, there is no
battery drain. After 2 months of this, the battery died (phone went into
reboot loop at 10% charge, would never reboot or charge). I had a new
battery installed, and back to the same routine. 4% battery drain in
locked mode. Settings battery usage showed (since last recharge) 5% home
screen, and nothing else! ( I locked after full recharge, didn’t touch
for 12 hours, and when I checked battery was at 35%) Fed up, I broke
down and got a 7+. And yes, it works perfectly. I then wiped the 6+
clean, made a new install on itunes, removed widgets on lock screen
turned off wifi cellular and everything else, and retested. SAME
PROBLEM. Battery drains, won’t accept aftermarket charging cables, takes
way too long to recharge. I did send email to Apple. No response. I
have the latest updates as of Dec 24 2016. My son has the iphone 6.
After ios 10 updates he is experiencing the same issues.No excuses,
Apple. I’m fed up
cant tell for ios 10 since my 6s plus is still on 9.3.5.. I associate this issue with IOS10. My 6+ developed this bug/feature following the update.
