Apple can’t keep secrets from tipsters.

We aren’t left wondering what the four models in the upcoming iPhone 17 series will look like — not when a picture of “dummy” units posted Thursday reveals the design of each of them.

These show the rumored move from a camera hump to a camera bar in most of Apple’s upcoming handsets, and the back panel on the two Pro models will employ a new design.

Goodbye iPhone camera hump, hello camera bar

The iPhone 16 series doesn’t look all that different from the iPhone 15 series. Its big appeal was supposed to be Apple Intelligence, but that didn’t work out so well. It seems Apple is hoping to spur sales of this autumn’s iPhone 17 with a bit of a redesign.

For a glimpse at the changes coming in about six months, take a look at an image of two sets of “dummy” units posted Thursday on X by tipster Sonny Dickson.

Perhaps the standout features are the camera bars that’ll supposedly appear on most of the upcoming iOS handsets. Both iPhone 17 Pro models have the bar (the second the fourth devices shown), as does the iPhone 17 Air (third in the image above). Apparently, the sole exception will be the base model (shown first).

If nothing else, the bar should make the devices less prone to rocking when lying flat.

Look closely at the back

Previous rumors suggest Apple may ditch the Pro models’ titanium edges for aluminum, and part of the back panel will be aluminum while the rest is glass. And Dickson’s dummy image shows that division — look for it on the second and fourth devices in his picture.

The circle and line on the back of all these dummies are for MagSafe.

It’s quite possible this picture of Apple’s future handsets is accurate, considering Dickson posted images of iPhone 16 series dummies last April that turned out completely on the nose.

Looking ahead to autumn

Dickson’s latest image doesn’t show it — it’s taken from the wrong angle — but the iPhone 17 Pro Max will supposedly get thicker, while the iPhone 17 Air will be Apple’s thinnest ever.

We probably won’t know for sure until this autumn when Apple traditionally unveils its newest crop of iPhones.
