After months of being in beta, Apple has finally released iOS 8 for free to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. You can grab it now in iTunes or through Software Update.
iOS 8 introduces many new features, including the new Health app, Notification Center widgets, Handoff, actionable notifications, and Extensibility for developers. You’ll start to see many of your favorite apps offer features specific for iOS 8, like the ability to interact directly with other apps.
We’ve been digging into iOS 8 for months now, and we’re collected some of the best features to check out while you’re downloading. We’ll have more in-depth looks at aspects of the new OS throughout the day.
Is my device supported?
Most likely, yes. Any iPhone from the 4s and up is capable of running iOS 8, although you should probably avoid installing iOS 8 on the 4s.
Ars Technica did a speed test and found iOS 8’s performance on the 4s to be sluggish at best. Unless you’re absolutely chomping at the big for iOS 8’s new features, sticking to iOS 7 on the 4s is probably a good idea. If you do upgrade, you won’t get features like AirDrop and Handoff, which is unfortunate.
iOS 8 also supports the Retina 10-inch iPad (2nd, 3rd and 4th-gen), iPad Air, iPad mini, Retina iPad mini and 5th-gen iPod touch.

iPad 2 is also supported!
That is rather strange….
Is this the same as the GM version?
It has the same build number, so yes.
39 minutes left :)
In UK, It still says 7.1.2 is the latest version
your lucky
Woo
None of the Direct Links seem to work…Fix pls?
I just got finished installing this on the 5S. Lost A LOT of pictures for some unknown reason. “Camera Roll” and the “Photo Stream” options are gone completely, and all you get are whatever pictures showed up in your “Collections” section. I don’t know why, but pictures for me never stayed in here once they were off my Camera Roll. So basically, I just got screwed pretty well on that one.
Did you do a backup to your computer or to the cloud before updating?
Apple. It just works!
iphone 5s updated, running hot
yes. You did just back it up and restore it to another OS…it’s a computer :)
iPad 2 might be supported but you need at least a 4th-generation iPad —A1458, A1459, A1460—to support Continuity, the important set of tools that helps you to hand-off projects between your Mac and iPad, support phone calls on the iPad, use Instant Hotspot, and (apparently) AirDrop compatibility with a Mac running Yosemite. (My 3rd generation, the first Retina generation, is underneath the cutoff. :-( )
Nope, I thougth so and can confirm that calls from the iphone 5c can be answered in the iPad2 with no issue at all, for example.
