Whether it’s saving the life of a man trapped beneath a truck or calling 911 after a mom suffered a fainting spell, Siri has proven to be a real life-saver on a few occasions.
The latest such example comes out of Cairns, Australia, when a mother used her iPhone 6s’ “Hey Siri” feature to call an ambulance after her one-year-old daughter stopped breathing.
“I had played around with Siri [and] thought it was a fun feature,” said mother Stacey Gleeson. “Now I have that feature turned on all the time, and it will never be turned off again.”
Using the hands free Siri, which doesn’t require users to tap the Home button to activate, Gleeson was able to call for Siri to summon emergency services while she began CPR on her daughter, who had been fighting a chest infection and bronchiolitis. By the time the ambulance arrived, her daughter was breathing again.
“As cheesy as it sounds I wanted to say thank you,” Gleeson told the BBC in an interview. “Saving me the trouble of having to physically dial emergency services was a godsend.”
That’s one example of a way “Hey Siri” can change your life that I hadn’t considered before!

I’m surprised that Siri did not try to order a pizza when the need was to get EMS. “Calling Nigel Won” “No Siri! Nine one one!” (I know that 911 is not universal for EMS, but it’s the only way the joke works.)
