Potential folding iPhone buyers can breathe a sigh of relief. New images of cases for the device — supposedly dubbed the iPhone Ultra — show it including MagSafe. Previously, we saw no sign of this feature in leaks about the much-anticipated handset.

This could have been a deal-breaker for some buyers.

Folding iPhone might not lack MagSafe after all

MagSafe has become a key part of the modern iPhone ecosystem, enabling wireless charging with snap-on chargers, as well as battery packs and a wide range of other accessories that magnetically connect to Apple handsets. It’s so convenient that many users consider it a must-have.

However, a recent leak showed images of “dummy” units for all three iOS handsets expected this fall, and the folding iPhone lacked the distinctive MagSafe ring. The iPhone 18 Pro models in the same image did include it.

But on Sunday, tipster Majin Bu posted on X images claiming to show cases for the iPhone Ultra — and the pics do include the MagSafe ring.

There’s been reason to question MagSafe’s inclusion. Many potential buyers expressed concern that a folding iPhone might be too thick. Leaving out MagSafe could give Apple one way to slim down the hardware.

But this latest leak raises the possibility that Apple will include the magnetic tech after all, suggesting that the company wants to maintain feature parity with its flagship devices, even as it experiments with new hardware formats.

As with all leaks, details remain subject to change, and Apple has yet to officially confirm any plans for a folding iPhone.

More about the iPhone Ultra

Rumors around Apple’s long-anticipated folding iPhone suggest a device that blends familiar flagship features with a radically new design. Reports point to a book-style foldable with a flexible OLED display that opens into a small, tablet-like screen, paired with a durable hinge engineered to minimize creasing.

We expect two touchscreens in the first folding iPhone: an outer one measuring about 5.5 inches, and an inner, foldable one that measures 7.6 to 7.8 inches.

The device should pack high-end internals similar to Apple’s Pro models, along with iPad-style multitasking to take advantage of the larger screen.
