The first folding iPhone is expected to break iOS out of its years-long rut, and new rumors give us the most complete picture yet of a handset supposedly set to launch in 2026.
These come from a formerly prolific source of often reliable Apple leaks.
Folding iPhone could take foldables mainstream
Many people are excited about the potential of a foldable iPhone because it promises a rare, meaningful shift in how the iPhone is used, not just how it looks. A book-style foldable could offer a compact phone that opens into a tablet-like display, making everyday tasks like reading, multitasking, gaming and watching video far more immersive without sacrificing portability.
While Apple itself has nothing to say about the folding iPhone, tipster Jon Prosser spilled a wealth of details about the upcoming device on his YouTube channel fpt.
According to him, the inner, foldable touchscreen will measure 7.8 inches. An outer display will measure 5.5 inches. These figures are approximately in line with previous reports.
And Prosser repeats what many other sources have said: Apple held off building a foldable touchscreen into an iPhone until it could get one without an unsightly crease down the middle. Older Android foldables came with a massive crease, but not the iPhone version.
The fpt video goes on to predict that the folding iPhone will include four cameras. That’s two on the back for taking photographs, and a selfie cam for each of the screens.
But there’s apparently no room for the rest of the sensors needed for Face ID. So the handset will depend on a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into one of the headset’s buttons.
All the hardware supposedly fits into a casing that’s 9mm (0.35 inches) thick. To get that svelte design, Apple is allegedly using high-density batteries. And an Apple C2 wireless chip should boost time between charges. The slim device will supposedly come in only white or black case colors.
All foldables are very expensive, and speculation points to the folding iPhone costing between $2,000 and $2,500. It’s expected to hit the market in September 2026, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The base-model iPhone 18 is allegedly not coming until the first quarter of 2027.
After years of incremental upgrades, a foldable iPhone represents the possibility of genuine innovation — something that could make the device feel new again while blending productivity and entertainment in a single, pocketable form factor.

Prosser is back!
Prosser did not reveal the source of these details. But this is the first major leak to come from the tipster since Apple filed a lawsuit against him in July alleging that he and an associate concocted a “scheme to break into an Apple development iPhone, steal Apple’s trade secrets, and profit from the theft.”
Prosser was once a major source of Apple insider information.
