Everything old is new again in Dickinson
In this background video, called “Dickinson — Past Meets Present,” creator Alena Smith says “We’re trying to find the uncanny resonances between the 1850s and today.”
This isn’t your typical biography. “We’re not doing a biopic of Emily Dickinson in any kind of straightforward sense. We are doing our own poetic interpretation.” Which explains how in one episode the poet meets Death. Literally.
Apple’s description of this new video says:
“In this poetic interpretation of Emily Dickinson’s life, creator Alena Smith demonstrates that many of the issues that Dickinson faced in the 1800s still apply to women today. Dickinson star Hailee Steinfeld shares how proud she is to bring such an impactful figure to life.”
All ten episodes of this non-traditional biopic are available now on Apple TV. It’s joined by others that have feminist themes: For All Mankind and The Morning Show.
