Apple’s new line of TechWoven, silicone and clear polycarbonate cases for iPhone 17 series models, showcased at the Awe Dropping even Tuesday, mark a significant departure from the company’s previous materials and design approach.
In addition to the silicon and clear polycarbonate cases with lanyard support for the new Crossbody Strap, the new TechWoven cases feature a synthetic fabric designed to replace the widely criticized FineWoven cases that Apple quickly abandoned after their problematic launch in 2023. Plus plenty of third-party cases are already available.
Awe Dropping event iPhone 17 cases: Apple TechWoven, silicon and clear cases
The new TechWoven cases at Apple Awe Dropping event represent Apple’s latest attempt to create an eco-friendly leather alternative after eliminating leather products from its lineup for environmental reasons. Unlike the luxury-positioned FineWoven material that suffered from poor durability and visible wear, TechWoven takes a more technical approach with enhanced resistance to scratches and daily wear and tear. The new cases fit the new iPhone Series 17 lineup. And Apple’s new Silicon cases with lanyard support were leaked ahead of time, too. But Apple didn’t go for the predicted “Liquid Silicone” name.
As leaked information indicated, the TechWoven material features a more visible texture and provides a rubbery, grippy surface designed to improve phone handling and reduce drops. The cases launched in five colors: black, blue, green, purple and brown. The muted shades should complement the iPhone 17 color options.
The new cases include practical features like dual lanyard hole openings at the bottom, contrasting metallic button finishes for improved tactile feedback, and full support for MagSafe and Camera Control functionality. Apple released TechWoven cases for every iPhone 17 model, not just the Pro versions.
And in a first, Apple also released Crossbody Straps for the handsets. Leaker Sonny Dickson shared an image of a bright orange one Monday, below.

Third-party manufacturers reveal design details
Case manufacturers already showcased their iPhone 17 accessories at the recent IFA 2025 show in Berlin, providing early glimpses of the new iPhone designs. Companies including Spigen, Dbrand, Nudient, Pitaka and MagEasy displayed cases with consistent cutouts. That suggested high confidence in leaked specifications.
The third-party cases revealed significant design changes for the iPhone 17 lineup, particularly a Google Pixel-like horizontal camera bar that stretches across the entire upper back of Pro models. iPhone Air, replacing the Plus model, features a much slimmer profile with a single camera lens mounted on a similar runway-style bar.
Industry sources indicated case manufacturers typically receive specifications from factory sources or Apple’s accessory partners months in advance, allowing them to begin production before official announcements.
