A new leak shows off the alleged TechWoven cases that Apple will supposedly launch for the iPhone 17 Pro lineup.
Based on the image, Apple’s TechWoven iPhone 17 cases will come in at least five colors.
Apple’s new TechWoven case material looks durable
Apple announced FineWoven-based Apple Watch bands and iPhone cases in September 2023 alongside the launch of the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9.
Made from 68% post-consumer recycled material, they replaced the company’s leather accessories. Their eco-friendly nature and lower carbon emissions helped Apple take another step towards becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
But within months of their launch, iPhone users found their FineWoven cases disintegrating and falling apart. No wonder Apple quickly abandoned them, not releasing FineWoven cases for the iPhone 16.
This year, leaks point to Apple announcing TechWoven-based cases for the iPhone 17. They will seemingly feature a “more technical design aesthetic,” with a more visible texture and enhanced resistance to daily wear and tear. Leaker Majin Bu previously shared the retail packaging pictures of the new TechWoven cases.
Now, he has shared pictures of the cases themselves, showing off their textured finish in five colors. The muted black, blue, green, purple and orange shades should go well with iPhone 17’s rumored color options. The new iPhone 17 cases will use a “fabric cover, but the material has been redesigned for greater durability and more practical daily use.”
The textured weave improves grip, better resists scratches and glossing, which should ensure it holds up better against daily wear.
Entire iPhone 17 lineup may get TechWoven cases
The leaker says the TechWoven cases will have two lanyard hole openings at the bottom — one on each side. The buttons will feature a contrasting metallic finish, seemingly improving the tactile feedback. They will also support MagSafe and Camera Control.
Although the photos show iPhone 17 Pro cases, Majin Bu says Apple plans to release them for every iPhone 17 model.
