An image discovered in iOS 26 beta 5 suggests the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature a slightly higher-resolution display. This hints at a modest screen size bump as well.

The leaked resolution of 422 × 514 is only slightly higher than the Ultra 2’s screen resolution of 410 × 502. Assuming the same pixel density, this would mean a 1.97-inch display, up from a 1.92-inch display.

Thinner bezels == a larger display

Apple did not update its Ultra watch in 2024. Instead, it added a new black titanium shade and a Hermés model. Leaks indicate this won’t be the case this year. The company will launch the Apple Watch Ultra 3 alongside the iPhone 17 lineup in September with a collection of new features,

It’s unclear what changes Apple plans to make to the Ultra 3 this year. If 2024’s Apple Watch Series 10 is anything to go by, the company could slim down the watch. Plus, it could use a newer wide-angle OLED panel for higher off-angle brightness.

Based on the leaked screen resolution of 422 × 514, Apple could reduce the bezels to slightly increase the overall viewing area. However, since the resolution bump is relatively minor, don’t expect a dramatic increase in display size like with the Apple Watch Series 10. The difference of 1.97 vs. 1.92 inches is barely noticeable — a 2.6% change on a pretty small scale.

While not mentioned, the newer LTPO OLED panel should also enable live second hands and a lower refresh rate to reduce power consumption.

Satellite connectivity, 5G and more could be part of the package

Rumors point to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 featuring a MediaTek modem for satellite connectivity. Like the iPhone, this will enable the watch to connect to emergency services or contacts using satellite in areas with no network coverage.

It might also support a low-power form of 5G, blood-pressure monitoring and faster charging speeds, reducing the total charging time from 1.5 hours to something more reasonable.

These improvements will help the Apple Watch Ultra 3 deliver a better end-user experience.
