Apple has now made iTunes 10.3.1 available to download an incremental update to iTunes 10.3 released earlier this week. In case you missed it here’s what’s new!

Tunes 10.3.1 is a 76MB download for Mac OS 10.5 and above, and introduces the following new features:

  • Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.
  • Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music purchases again at no additional cost. Your purchases are available in the iTunes Store on your Mac or in the iTunes app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
  • iTunes 10.3 also adds Books to the iTunes Store, where you can discover and buy your favorite books on your computer and automatically download them to iBooks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  • This version also allows you to use Automatic Downloads with apps and books or download previously purchased apps and books from your computer or iOS device.

These are the same features announced with the original release of iTunes 10.3 so it isn’t clear what exactly has changed between version 10.3 and 10.3.1. My guess is that there were some last-minute urgent bug fixes.

iTunes 10.3.1 can be downloaded from the iTunes page on Apple’s website or grab it on your Mac via Software Update.

Not sure if it’s related, but once I upgraded to iTunes 10.3 and synced my iPhone and iPad, I had automatic downloads for Apps and Books available!
I’m guessing that was a bug as I’m in the UK and that 10.3.1 fixed it :P

Maybe it’s to fix the issue where I can’t “add to library” my Apps from my old hard drive (swapped for a SSD)… I don’t want to have to download them all again… : (

I also live in the UK. I got the auto downloads on my iPhone and iPad, but I have NOT installed iTunes 10.3 or upgraded my iOS. It just started doing it yesterday.

    Copy in the folder

I’ve tried everything. All the mobile apps are in the iTunes folder. Add to library or drag and drop doesn’t work. It says “”the app” cannot be added to your library because an error occurred. An unknown error occurred (-50).”

    Very bizarre situation.

My mom’s iphone 4 has this feature, where you can see everything anyone on our account has bought and download it.  My 3G obviously doesn’t do it, but this sounds like they integrated that straight into iTunes. To find it on your phone, just try downloading a previously purchased song and it takes you to a page to download it and not pay for it again.  I can’t wait to upgrade and get this on my phone!!
