U.K. MasterCard customers in London can take advantage of a great Apple Pay promotion right now — with the ability to use London’s tubes, buses and trains for free for the next four Mondays, starting today.
Called “Fare Free Mondays,” the scheme asks that people pay for their tube, rail, or bus journey using their MasterCard on Apple Pay. Although they will be charged for the journey, the money will be refunded within 28 days — up to a maximum value of £27.90 ($42) per MasterCard holder.
To take advantage, users should touch their Apple Pay device (whether that be an iPhone or Apple Watch) at both the start and end of a journey using London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, and most National Rail services in London (where a yellow card reader is present) during the Promotional Period. On London Buses and London Trams, they only need to do this at the start of the journey.

As a way to get more people using Apple Pay (and consider that the U.K. is already a way ahead of the U.S. in terms of NFC payment adoption), this is definitely a good offer. And, hey, in the lead-up to Christmas, every £27.90 certainly counts!

Wonder when this will happen i Gothenburg Sweden. We got the worst payment system ever created on buses/Trams.
Complicated to the level that the drivers can’t explain, abbrevations (in Swedish) on the terminals – good luck with deciphering
that if you are a tourist (“V” is “Vuxen” – “Adult”…). You also have to check in, and out. Forgetting to check out means
all your funds are drained….
