Apple has been named in a class-action lawsuit alongside AMD and Intel. The case filed in Israel, one of many expected to hit major chip manufacturers, comes after the discovery of the Meltdown and Spectre bugs that leave billions of users at risk.

Apple, AMD, and Intel have all been scrambling to eliminate processor flaws that allow applications to access sensitive memory data that should be protected. The bugs affect almost all desktop and mobile processors produced in the last decade.

Apple targeted in class-action lawsuit

Apple, AMD, and Intel have been rolling out fixes, with the help of operating system vendors and other hardware makers in some cases. However, these fixes can have a dramatic impact on system performance — particularly on Windows machines.

A growing number of class-action lawsuits are being filed against those responsible for the oversight. Apple is named in the latest, filed in the Haifa District Court, alongside AMD and Intel. It is just a request for now, however; the court will decide if the lawsuit will proceed.

Represented by attorney Rimon Zinati, the plaintiffs list a number of computers and mobile devices powered by Apple, AMD, and Intel chips.

“Our worst nightmares have come to pass, and a giant tech bubble has burst,” Zinati writes. “That this is an earthquake is an understatement. Since the announcement by the companies of the vulnerabilities of their products, we realize that we are living in a fantasy world and now realize that we do not even have a minimum of privacy.”

The court will decide if this case should continue “in the coming weeks,” according to Patently Apple. In the meantime, others will continue to surface around the world.
