Apple has just announced when its iPad 2 tablet will be available Friday. Depending how quickly you want to lay hands on the device, you can stay up till 1 a.m. Friday morning and grab the tablet online, or wait until 5 p.m Friday local time and pick up the device at a number of participating retailers.

Along with 236 Apple retail locations, AT&T, Verizon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target and other stores will have the iPad 2, which has met with mixed early reviews. Others have speculated why there were no pre-sales of the device, instead requiring fans wait until the opening day.

The Wi-Fi iPad 2 is priced at $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for the 32GB model, $699 for the 64GB model. The Wi-Fi + 3G model will sell for a suggested price of $629 for the 16GB model, $729 for the 32GB version and $829 for the 64GB model. A Wi-Fi + 3G model for the Verizon network in the U.S. will sell for $629, $729 and $829, Apple announced.

As a teaser for buyers, Apple is also offering free Personal Setup at its retail outlets. Additionally, the company is selling the iMovie and GarageBand iPad apps each for $4.99 at the App Store.

Ok – if you order online and select next day delivery; will you get it on Sat or is that considered next Business Day, meaning Monday. A big difference for those that suffer from this disease.

    Most likely Monday.

Met with mixed early reviews? Show me a bad review please.

The order process is terrible. Online should have been at least 2 days before retail. Apple just wants lines to show on the news!!!

I’m sure there’s a shred of truth to what you say but there were reports from analysts saying initial supply would be tight. If that’s true, then Apple would want to make sure that as many people that want an iPad 2 will have a chance to get one, so first come first serve.

    That’s my theory.

What is the difference between going to the store to get one and ordering online? I am sure each customer in either situation wants it just as much.

Why is the store in your “theory” the place for first come first serve? I agree with Steve completely.
