The iPhone 7 was expected to be the most snooze-worthy update Apple has ever come out with, but after busting out a couple of intriguing surprises, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus look like the greatest smartphones ever made.

Fans will have to wait until September 16 to get their fingers all over the iPhone 7’s bright new display and sleek black exterior. For now, we’ll continue drooling over these seven new features that completely change the iPhone experience:

Waterproofing

The iPhone 7 is the first ever waterproof smartphone Apple’s made, which is fantastic for accident-prone buffoons like me. I’ve managed to dunk my iPhone everywhere from the beach to the Grand Canyon in the past nine years. Now that the iPhone 7’s entire enclosure has been re-engineered to keep out water (and dust!), the Genius Bar will see my face a lot less.

Dual speakers

I rarely ever play music through my iPhone speaker because: A) I’m polite in public spaces and B) The sound it produces is weak.

The iPhone 7 could change that by bringing rich, cinematic soundscapes through its dual speakers. Not only is the iPhone 7 twice as loud as the iPhone 6s, Apple says the speakers have increased dynamic range that produce unprecedented sound for a smartphone.

Apple’s super-gorgeous jet black finish on the iPhone 7 is dying for my fingers to rub it all over. It’s so beautiful, putting a case on it should be a crime — if only it wasn’t so (potentially) prone to scratches.

Going wireless

Say what you will about the death of the headphone jack — I won’t miss it one bit. Wires are lame. They’re always getting in the way and tangled. Charging the iPhone 7 and listening to wired headphones will be a pain, but accessory makers are already hard at work solving that problem. Or you can just buy some AirPods and quit crying.

Optical zooming

The dual-lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus is a total game-changer. Optical zooming means you can finally get closer without ruining the quality of your photo. And with the upcoming depth-of-field effect in iPhone 7, you can create DSLR-like closeup photos of your subjects. The only downside with going Plus is you’ll have to wait until later this year to unlock the dual cameras’ full potential.

Taptic Home button

Apple talked a lot about pressure-sensitivity and the Taptic Engine on the iPhone 7’s new Home button, but the most exciting feature is that it’s totally customizable. It’s one of the biggest changes Apple’s ever made to the device, and even third-party developers will be able to take advantage of it.

Gaming

The raw processing power of the iPhone 7 is absolutely mind-blowing. Its new A10 Fusion chip makes it more powerful than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, yet the iPhone 7 is so power-efficient it gets up to two more hours of battery life than the iPhone 6s. (The iPhone 7 Plus gets up to one hour more than iPhone 6s Plus.)

Quit crying and pay $159? If only I’d considered that!

  2. AdamBoltGC says:

Isn’t it water resistant and not water proof as you have stated above?

  3. Manish says:

Almost all these features, are old age features already available on several phones, since several YEARS.
And if wires are lame and always tangling, it actually means you couldn’t even afford to buy non-tangling cable earphones which don’t tangle.. And them you’re willing to pay $159 for set of spooky looking airpods? Looks like either you’ve been paid by apple apple for this article or you’re looking forward for some money by a**-licking..
Seems like stupidity is not looking to leave anytime soon!

Yes, several things were in some phones since some time, but how many phones have all of them? There are phones with 3D screens but that’s their only nice feature, others are IP68 but don’t ask for more… I think you are right about the airpods, they are spooky

Could you be any more sycophantic?

What a waste of an article. Clearly, you didn’t do your research and just regurgitated a few choice Apple lines.

Let’s just talk about one of your many misleading sections: the supposed waterproof iPhone 7. In less than a minute of googling this I discovered and learned about the difference between Apple’s IP67 waterproof rating and Samsung’s IP68 rating. There’s a fair difference between the two. I won’t spoil it for you – you probably know how to search for stuff on the internet.

Suffice it to say that if you drop your iPhone in the ocean, you likely WILL visit the Genius Bar again, learn that water damage is not covered by Apple’s warranty and have to pay for your own replacement. Good luck, genius.
