6 awesome sci-fi blockbusters to watch on your new iPhone

By

With its gorgeously rounded form factor, the iPhone 6 is a big, beautiful beast. Which is a bit like the mecha in Guillermo del Toro’s epic 2013 movie Pacific Rim in fact. (Fine, I’m stretching the simile a bit — but don’t let that put you off a fantastic film.) Set just a few years in the future, Pacific Rim tells the story of an Earth at war with giant monsters from a portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To fight them, mankind unites to build giant fighting robots. The rest, as they say, is history. Or rather future.Photo:

Even though I’ll be getting mine (6) tomorrow night, I don’t plan on watching movies on it. To me the idea of video on less than a 24″ screen is simply useless. An occasional YouTube is about all I can handle. Even my iPad Air is never used for video (by me, anyway – sometimes the grandson will watch hulu on it).

I only can abide watching movies on IMAX screens. Anything less than that is just unacceptable.

I only watch movies on 8mm with mono audio. But that’s just me, I’m a perfectionist projectionist with an 8mm projector.

As the author of this article and a movie lover, I’ll agree that if I’m home I’m not hunched over my iPhone watching a movie, but if you travel this beats the heck out of the portable DVD player I used to cart around a few years back. True, a larger screen MacBook still wins out, but there are some times you just don’t have the opportunity to use your notebook.
