Nintendo delays Animal Crossing for iOS

Animal Crossing, another Nintendo game bound for iOS, is being delayed until April at the earliest, according to the company’s most recent financial statement. Originally it was set to arrive on iOS by the end of March.

Gamers shouldn’t be too upset, however, as they’ll have Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Heroesannounced at the same time as Animal Crossing, but launching over the next few days — to play instead.

Apple has its first quarter earnings call for fiscal 2017 today, and if you’re an investor — or just an Apple fan — signs point to it being a great one.

With revenue having declined year-on-year for the past three quarters, investors expect today’s announcement to reveal that Apple is rebounding.

Apple Music has announced its entry into the world of high profile sport sponsorship, by agreeing a sponsorship deal with top German soccer club FC Bayern Munich.

The club, which is the biggest in Germany, has revealed that as part of the deal it will be offering exclusive Apple Music playlists and other content.

It seems that fewer and fewer people do. New data from eMarketer suggest Apple is currently “at the bottom of the U.S. connected TV market, behind Google Chromecast and Roku, with its share shrinking.”

A new 4K drone flyover video from UAV operator Matthew Roberts shows that Apple’s “spaceship” Campus 2 is looking virtually ready to go, with the final touches being added to the massive HQ.

The site was originally supposed to be completed last year, but overran slightly. From the look of things, however, the wait is going to certainly be worthwhile.

Qualcomm can’t stop talking about Apple on earnings call

Qualcomm just had its earnings call, and CEO Steve Mollenkopf and Derek Aberle, head of the wireless chipmakers’s licensing business, couldn’t stop talking about Apple.

In a one-hour conference call, discussion about the developing Apple/Qualcomm dispute took up the entire first 20 minutes.

“If you peel apart all of the arguments Apple’s making, we believe firmly they’re all without merit,” Aberle said. “At the end of the day, they essentially want to pay less for the technology they’re using. It’s pretty simple.”

Apple may join Amazon, Google and Facebook in AI partnership group

Apple Pay transactions up 50 percent last year

Monthly Apple Pay transactions grew by 50 percent year-over-year in 2016, although they still account for a relatively small percentage of all credit card transactions.

According to a study by consumer spending analytics company TXN, Apple Pay has been a “success story,” although the fact that is still still new technology means that there’s “lot of room for future growth.”

Apple is being sued for something it didn’t do, by a car crash victim who claims Apple has the technology to stop iPhones working while drivers are behind the wheel — but fails to implement it.

The driver in question, Julio Ceja, was rear-ended by another motorist who was distracted while texting on their iPhone.

Hello, San Francisco! Apple.com changes its web font

As part of its ongoing attempt to unify its platforms, Apple has switched the font for its official Apple.com website to the blockier San Francisco typeface.

Prior to this, Apple used a lighter Myriad font, which first debuted in 2001 as a replacement for the the company’s Apple Garamond typeface.

Qualcomm is reportedly considering countersuing Apple after Apple filed a $1 billion lawsuit against the company on Friday.

Apple’s lawsuit against Qualcomm relates to the fees Qualcomm charges for use of its licenses, which Apple says amounts to, “at least five times more in payments than all the other cellular patent licensors we have agreements with combined.”

Apple’s massive tax bill from the European Commission is tantamount to an ill-advised “land grab” and could be reversed in court, claims Feargal O’Rourke, the man who heads up the tax practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Ireland.

Speaking at the Irish Times corporation tax summit in Dublin, O’Rourke said he is confident the Commission’s decision will be overturned by the European Court of Justice.

Hugo Barra, probably the most famous Xiaomi executive to stateside audiences, has left the Chinese smartphone maker — apparently prompted by an incredibly disappointing quarter for Xiaomi.

Having once used its strategy of producing low-end iPhone clones to become the world’s most valuable startup, Xiaomi has had something of a fall from grace lately. Having dropped out of the top five smartphone makers in China last year, Barra’s departure is the latest piece of bad news for the company.

Rainer Hersch is a British conductor, actor, writer and comedian, best known for comic takes on classical music. One of his most notable recent creations? A symphony-worthy compilation of iPhone-inspired — ranging from orchestral takes on its iconic default ringtone to its standard alert sounds.

Hersch plays the xylophone in his video, while being supported by an orchestra playing the clarinet, horn, two violins, viola, cello and percussion.

Apple sues Qualcomm for charging massive licensing fees

Apple and Qualcomm seem to be headed toward a head-on collision, with Apple suing the the wireless chipmaking company for apparently overcharging for use of its patents.

“For many years Qualcomm has unfairly insisted on charging royalties for technologies they have nothing to do with,” Apple said in a statement. “The more Apple innovates with unique features such as TouchID, advanced displays, and cameras, to name just a few, the more money Qualcomm collects for no reason and the more expensive it becomes for Apple to fund these innovations.”

World’s largest investment firm goes even bigger on AAPL

BlackRock, a.k.a. the world’s largest asset manager, has just made a massive investment in Apple, according to its latest Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The firm upped its investment in Apple to a whopping 322 million shares, meaning that now owns the equivalent of 6.1 percent of Apple’s outstanding shares — with a current monetary value of $38.4 billion.
