Ed Hardy has been writing full-time about tech for 25 years, and using it for much longer than that. His intro to Apple was a Macintosh Classic II (which he still has), but now he uses a 13-inch iPad Pro as his primary computer. He’s written for NotebookReview, TabletPCReview, and Brighthand, as well as other sites.
C-band 5G is here, and it’s available on every 5G iPhone and iPad. Image: Killian Bell/Cult of Mac
Both AT&T and Verizon began rolling out a new 5G version on Wednesday. And getting access via C-band doesn’t require getting a new iPhone. If your iOS device supports 5G, it can use the new version.
The same goes for iPad. If it has built-in 5G, it supports C-band.
Adds some library camouflage to your iPad and keyboard with the Twelve South BookBook Cover. Photo: Twelve South
While there are a lot of generic iPad cases, the new BookBook Cover from Twelve South is completely eye opening. It turns an iPad and keyboard into a leather-bound book. While making the tablet look medieval, it’s also protecting the valuable computer inside from bumps and blows.
Unlike the standard BookBook Case for iPad, this version has room to hold an Apple Magic Keyboard.

You don’t need an Apple Pencil just to take notes. Consider the Adonit Neo Duo or Adonit Neo instead. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
Writing on an iPad with a fingertip is ridiculous, but an Apple Pencil is overkill for many people. The Adonit Neo Duo is an active stylus with a fine tip that works well for taking notes of sketching. As a bonus, press a button and it also writes on iPhone. It even clings to the side of several iPad models.
There’s also the Adonit Neo, a simpler version that just works with iPad.
I tested the capabilities of both styli. And I found a lot to like.
Not a rumor. Proof that a new iPhone and iPad will launch within a few months. Photo: Apple/Cult of Mac
The Eurasian Economic Commission confirmed that Apple plans to release a new iPhone and iPad in the near future. The devices appear in the online database of the regulatory agency.
These are almost certainly the next-generation iPhone SE and iPad Air 5.

Multiple companies are reportedly gearing up to produce OLED displays for future iPad models. This would lead to a noticeable improvement in image quality.
But it’s apparently not going to happen before 2023.
The 2022 iPad 10 will reportedly look essentially like the current iPad 9. But just wait until 2023! Photo: Apple
The bad news is the 2022 basic iPad 10 will be a simple “speed bump” update, according to a tipster. But the good news is it will reportedly be followed by a redesigned version in 2023.
While the 10.2-inch iPad doesn’t often make headlines, its $329 price draws in plenty of buyers. Any change is sure to affect many people.
iPhone 13 Pro models have Apple's ProMotion display technology. But the two “standard” iPhone 14 models apparently won’t. Photo: Apple
A reliable source shot down an earlier leak about the the two “standard’ iPhone 14 models including 120Hz ProMotion screens. This would have brought them closer in line with Apple’s Pro handsets that already have the feature.
This is an example of the challenges of making predictions about a handset that is still many months away.
The 2022 iPad Air 5 might look much like its predecessor, but with a FaceTime-friendly front camera. Photo: Apple
The next-generation iPad Air is right around the corner, according to a leak coming out of Asia. The upcoming tablet will allegedly get a better front-facing camera with support for Center Stage. And a general specs boost.
On the inside, the iPad Air 5 supposed to have much in common with the iPad mini 6.
Is that an oversized Apple logo or are you just happy to see me? Concept: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
Apple reportedly wants to add MagSafe wireless charging to the new iPad Pro, and it’s reportedly going to make a surprising design tweak to make it happen: increasing the size of the Apple logo on the back of the tablet.
The same unconfirmed report says the 2022 will have an improved camera, larger battery and a processor upgrade.

Here’s how to set impromptu schedules for your HomeKit accessories with Siri commands — and why you might want to.
One of the most hotly anticipated products of 2022 could be delayed until 2023, according to an unconfirmed report. Apple’s VR/AR headset might not be announced until late this year and not ship until next year.
Mechanical and software problems reportedly delayed the device, which supposedly will offer both virtual reality and augmented reality capabilities.

The displays in the two “standard” iPhone 14 versions will be upgraded to 120Hz ProMotion, according to a prediction by an industry analyst. And they supposedly will come with 50% more RAM.
There’ve been plenty of rumors about the iPhone 14 Pro models, so those interested in the two standard ones should be pleased to get some leaked details.

The power pack went through a round of crowdfunding but has moved past that stage. It is available to order now.
Bad news: looks like iPhone 14 won’t be Apple’s first with an in-display Touch ID scanner. Concept: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
Apple won’t build the Touch ID fingerprint recognition system into the 2022 iPhone, according to a very reliable tipster. That’s bad news for those who aren’t fans of Face ID, or who just want a second option.
There haven’t been any specific reports that the iPhone 14 will include Touch ID, but Apple is supposedly working on an in-screen version.
You can start the OWC Mercury Pro U.2 Dual with a fairly modest amount of storage than grow it to 64TB. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
The OWC Mercury Pro U.2 Dual can handle up to eight U.2 SSDs. And it can be pre-configured with up to 64TB. That’s a lot of storage capacity. Or put in your own SSDs. And the external drive enclosure uses Thunderbolt for high-speed connections to your Mac. Plus there’s RAID support.
I put the drive holder through testing. Here’s what I found.
CODA, Ted Lasso and The Morning Show all scored nominations for the 2022 SG Awards. Photo: Apple TV+/Cult of Mac
Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and CODA racked up multiple nominations in the 2002 Screen Actors Guild Awards, helping to further polish the reputation of the Apple TV+. The Tragedy of MacBeth wasn’t overlooked by the SAG wards, either.
Apple’s streaming service was a standout, with Ted Lasso tied for the most nominations for any series.

Both updates are available for all, and are ready to be installed immediately.
America really once lost its collective mind over stuffed animals. Photo: Ty, Inc.
Apple TV+ got the rights to The Beanie Bubble, a film about the ‘90s toy craze. Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks will lead a star-studded cast.
The film will recall when collecting the stuffed animals from Ty, Inc. were a sensation that led to some of the products rising tremendously in value. And then falling.
Wow, glasses that self adjust so whatever you’re looking at is in focus. Illustration: Apple
Apple is preparing for a future where you put on a pair of glasses and they automatically adjust themselves to your eyes. It received a patent on Tuesday for a system to handle this process. Self-adjusting lenses are likely intended for the augmented-reality glasses that Apple is rumored to be working on.
This could be the end of trips to the eye doctor to get a lens prescription. The glasses will take care it.
Easily switch the Adonit Neo Duo between iPad and iPhone, and write accurately on either. Photo: Adonit
Whether you’re using an iPad, iPad Pro or iPhone, the just-released Adonit Neo Duo stylus is compatible. Its small writing tip mimics a pen, and the accessory clings magnetically to several iPad models.
It’s part of a new series of styli. The Adonit Neo has many of the same features as the Neo Duo but is intended specifically for iPad. And the inexpensive Adonit Neo Lite works with all touchscreen devices.
