iPad’s Web Usage Share Hits 5 Month High

The iPad continues to dominate all other tablets in web usage in North America, according to the latest study from Chitika.

Apple’s iPad claimed 82.4% of North American tablet traffic in May, an overall share jump of 1.4% since January. Chitika breaks down the the current web traffic statistics as follows:

Apple Shares Drop Below 400, As DOW Dives 220 Points

AAPL shares have dropped below $400 in early morning trading on Monday. The DOW and NASDAQ both opened to big losses as they dropped 220 points and 53 points.

The share price drop may also be due in part to a report this morning that Apple has significantly reduced iPhone orders for the remainder of 2013. AAPL shares dropped below $400 in April for the first time in over 16 months.

Looking for a cheaper way to upgrade to the iPhone 5 without having to pay the full price? Best Buy announced this morning that it is relaunching its  program that allows customers to trade-in an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S to get a “free” iPhone 5.

The trade-in program is set to launch this Friday, June 21st, and will run for 9 days. Customers can bring in a working model iPhone 4 or 4S and get up to $150 in credit back, which can then be used to purchase a 16GB iPhone 5 for $149.99.

Apple’s iPad Mini Ad Campaign Wins Prestigious Grand Prix Advertising Award

Apple’s clever iPad mini ads that have been featured on the back covers of Time, Wired, the New Yorker, and Surfer, were just awarded one of the most prestigious advertising award in the world today.

The Apple iPad mini campaign by TBWA Media Arts Lab won the Grand Prix in press even though the iPad mini has been viewed by many as the device that will eventually kill newspapers and magazine. To get the top prize, Apple beat out strong competition from Dove and Beijing Sports.

Marcello Serpa, chief creative officer at Almap BBDO presided over the judging and had the following explanation for why Apple won:

After a string of reports that MacBook replacement batteries have caught fire, Best Buy has decided to recall 5,100 units.

AP first reported news of the recall this afternoon and said Best Buy is contacting customers individually to see if they would like a battery replacement, or a Best Buy giftcard for the value of the replacement battery.

Apple just posted videos for every session at WWDC 2013 so developers who didn’t make it out to California for the conference can still get all the new info on how to prepare their apps for iOS 7 and OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

The WWDC 2013 videos can be streamed from Safari, or you can download them straight to your desktop to watch later. You have to be a registered Apple Developer to view the videos which can be found here once you sign in.

Parallels Announces Desktop 8 Support For OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Apple Signs $30 Million iPad Contract With Second-Largest School District In U.S.

Apple just scored a big win with the education industry last night as the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) announced it has signed a $30 million contract with Apple to supply its students with iPads in the classroom.

The terms of the contract show that Apple will provided the iPads to LAUSD at a cost of $678 per iPad. That price is a bit above retail, but the iPads will come pre-loaded with a bunch of educational software, and Apple’s giving them a three-year warranty as well.

Jony Ive didn’t even make an appearance at the WWDC keynote last week, but that didn’t stop his name from spreading all over Twitter and Facebook, thanks to his influence on iOS 7’s new parallax UI.

A report from the people at ViralHeat shows that Jony Ive had the most social media mentions of anyone at Apple, including CEO Tim Cook. Sir Jony Ive had 28,377 mentions across Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, while Tim cook was mentioned 20,919 times.

Not only did Jony get more attention on social media, the comments about him trended more positively than those about Cook (72% positive for Ive, 64% positive for Cook)

Facebook App For iOS Gets New Icons To Add To Status Updates

Facebook just came out with version 6.2 of its iOS app. The update includes a new feature that allows users to add icons to status updates that show what you’re feeling based on a number of categories.

To use the new icons feature, just draft a status update in the new app and tap the new emoticon icon. The new icons screen is divided into 7 categories: Feeling, Watching, Reading, Listening to, Drinking, Eating, and Playing. You also change who can see something you’ve shared and start new conversations with photos.

Max Payne 3 was released on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Windows during the Summer 2012, but Rockstar Games just announced that the company is finally porting the game over to the Mac on June 20th.

The third-person shooter received a lot of praise from console gamers for its shooting mechanics, graphics, and new bullet-time features. Rockstar says the Mac version will feature scalable high-resolution textures and character models, DirectX11 features, multi-monitor support and 3D.

Twitter’s video sharing app, Vine, just got a new update that makes sharing your favorite Vines easier than ever.

Vine version 1.1.3 comes with a new share button underneath posts on your feed that allows you to share Vines to Facebook and Twitter or get the embedded code so you can post it on your own blog. The update also includes a number of interface improvements and bug fixes.

Apple hasn’t even announced a price tag or release date for the tiny new Mac Pro machines that were unveiled at WWDC, but that’s not stopping one company from creating a Mac Pro server rack that will turn Apple’s new pro machines into a supercomputer.

The new cylindrical design of the Mac Pro makes it perfect for linking to other Mac Pros to form a supercomputer, and MacStadium announced that it has created a rack that can hold 270 Mac Pros but only occupies 12 square-feet of floor space.

If you send friends a lot of pictures via iMessages, you’ll love this new little feature in the iOS 7 Messages app that makes it easier to find old photos you’ve sent friends.

To view all the files that you’ve ever sent someone from your iPhone you can tap the new folder icon at the bottom of a photo preview screen and you’ll get a list of all the files the two of you have sent to each other. No more hunting through chat logs to find that funny pic your friend sent you that you forgot to save.

Shazam Launches New ‘Pulse’ Music Discovery Feature For iOS

Shazam released version 6.1 of its iOS today on the App Store. The new version comes with a special feature called ‘Pulse’ that can be used to discover new music that is trending on Shazam’s charts.

Included in the big update is a new look for the tab bar, better chart updates, improved Friends page loading, and of course some bug fixes. The new version is available on both iPhone and iPad in the App Store for free.

Digg’s Google Reader Replacement Will Be Ready To Launch On iOS June 26th

Google Reader’s execution date is set for June 30th, so the team at Digg has been busy working on build a replacement as fast as possible. Digg Reader isn’t ready to go quite yet, but the company has started testing its new app and  announced that it will be ready to go live on June 26th.

Digg posted an update on its progress to replacing Google Reader this morning and stated that the team’s initial launch goals are to satisfy power-users with easy onboarding from Google Reader, a clean reading experience, and useful mobile apps.
