For best results, you should tailor your Move goal to suit your personal situation. Photo: Graham Bower/Cult of Mac
The Apple Watch Activity app sets us three daily goals, for standing, exercise and movement. The first two are the same for everyone: Stand for a minute during at least 12 hours of the day, and do at least 30 minutes of exercise. But the Move goal is different.
For it, you must choose an appropriate goal for yourself, and that can prove a little tricky. Set it too high and itâll be demotivating. Too low, and itâs just not challenging enough.
So how do you pick the perfect Move goal on Apple Watch?
Handmade in the U.S. from soft Italian leather, and available in a number of gorgeous color options, theyâre a delight to wear and incredibly long-lasting. Theyâre also more affordable than they look.

This time of year isnât great for health and fitness. With a constant barrage of holidays, comprising stodgy meals and plenty of snacks, we talk lots about New Year resolutions â but donât necessarily act on it.
However, your trusty Apple Watch is ready to nudge you in the right direction, courtesy of Appleâs upcoming âRing in the New Yearâ challenge. Hereâs what you need to know about it:
Wearables are a gold-rated business for Apple. Photo: Caviar
The âearwearâ product category, made up of devices like the AirPods, is set to explode in the next few years. According to a new report by the International Data Corporation, the market for hearables will increase from 139.4 million units this year to 273.7 million in 2023.
The firm doesnât break down projected sales by brand. However, with Appleâs market-leading status thanks to AirPods, itâs likely that Cupertino will do exceptionally well.
iPad obviously makes the list (but Apple Pencil doesn't). Photo: Apple
Time magazineâs pick of the â10 best gadgets of the 2010sâ is out, and perhaps unsurprisingly, three of them are Apple products.
iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods were all chosen as some of the âmost important and influential gadgetsâ of the decade. Other products include the Nintendo Switch, Tesla Model S, and the Amazon Echo.
Maybe my favorite Continuity feature is Apple Watch Unlock for the Mac. Once you set it up, youâll never need to enter your password to unlock your Mac ever again â not until you restart it, anyway. Itâs one of the best examples of Appleâs It Just Works⢠philosophy, and it will change the way you use your Mac.

Apple Watch users in New Zealand can now take advantage of cellular connectivity on compatible devices.
Local carrier Spark has become the first to roll out eSIM support and a new plan aimed specifically at wearables. It only serves Apple Watch Series 5 for now â but support for other devices will come later.

The nationâs 13th-largest health club chain, Orangetheory Fitness, will begin supporting Apple Watch in its 1,300 franchise studios by March, the company said Thursday. That will make it the first fitness brand to officially partner with Apple on a fitness studio solution.
The fitness franchise created a small accessory, called the OTbeat Link, that attaches to an Apple Watch band to track the heart rate of customers during exercise classes.

Apple continues to expand its dominance of a wearable device market that only gets hotter with each quarter.

It sounds crazy, but saving lives may be the Apple Watch's killer app. Photo: Leander Kahney/Cult of Mac
Thereâs no shortage of amazing stories about how Apple Watch has helped to save peopleâs lives. According to a new report, a 74-year-old man from Lake Worth, Florida was visiting family when he began experiencing unusual symptoms. Despite having âno ideaâ about atrial fibrillation, Roy Robinson was clued in by his Apple Watchâs EKG tech.
One trip to the emergency room later, and, well, Cupertino likely has another satisfied Apple Watch customer.

The living can communicate with the dead â and Niles Mitchell regularly holds seances on YouTube to prove it.
Mitchell is a true medium, putting contemporary technology like the iPhone or Apple Watch in touch with obsolete hardware. He connects the two worlds and gets devices, old and new, to work together in ways likely never imagined by their creators.

Youâve hung on until Black Friday, ordered your long-awaited Apple Watch online, and get it sent to your office, proudly opening it up in front of your colleagues. What could go wrong? Well, it could turn out to be a toilet plunger instead.
This unfortunate scenario befell one U.K. Amazon customer. He scored a 100 British pounds ($130) discount on an Apple Watch Series 4. Only it turned out not to be such a great deal when he finally received his package.

Use segments to log your rest intervals doing HIIT workouts Photo: Graham Bower/Cult of Mac
Interval training has become very popular these days, thanks to high-intensity interval training, or HIIT. Proponents of this type of exercise say it delivers many of the benefits of a much longer workout in a short, sharp burst.
The great thing about intervals is that you can do them with pretty much any type of exercise, including running, swimming and cycling. Interval training is also ideal for indoor workouts, like the cardio machines at your local gym. Or you can get creative and mix things up with a jump rope or weights.
Want to give it a go? If so, Apple Watch is the perfect workout companion for interval training.
Lesson: Don't steal an Apple Watch. Photo: Lewis Wallace/Cult of Mac
Two possible Apple Watch thieves have been jailed after the rightful owner âpingedâ the device while police officers were searching the thievesâ home.
Pinging an Apple Watch from an iPhone is a way to find your watch if youâve somehow misplaced it. From the sound of things, itâs pretty great to do if a couple of criminals have stolen your Apple Watch, too.
Transit for watchOS is better than ever. Photo: Transit
The super-handy Transit app today returned to Apple Watch almost two years after its developers dropped support for the wearable.
Transit makes it easy to access public transport information on your wrist. Itâs now better than ever, with useful maps and more detailed information.
The great thing about having Siri built into your Apple Watch is that itâs always there when you need it. The bad thing about it is that itâs there when you donât need it, too.
BBC Weather meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker recently ran into an embarrassing mishap on live TV when describing snow in the US Midwest. At that point, Siri kicked in to correct him, saying there was actually no snow forecast.
