A cool, colorful Apple Watch concept that borrows the design language of the original iMac is drawing raves on Instagram.
The instantly recognizable design features translucent plastic in the bright shades of the nonconformist computers that saved Apple’s bacon in the late 1990s.

After receiving an ominous note from an Apple attorney, concept artist Antonio De Rosa is waiting to find out how, exactly, the company wants him to alter his photorealistic images that depict unreleased Apple products.
De Rosa said he wants to work with Apple to resolve the situation. But when asked what he thinks will happen if he doesn’t make changes to his Apple concept images, he sounded slightly intimidated by the powerful tech company.
“I don’t know,” De Rosa said in an email to Cult of Mac, “but honestly I don’t want to find out.”

An iPad mini concept drops the size of this tablet even more by cutting the bezels. Concept: Parker Ortolani
The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch screen surrounded by bezels. Big ones. So a concept artist drew up some images that show how much smaller this tablet could be with an edge-to-edge display. The result is a device that’s nearly 20% smaller.
But Apple might be going in the opposite direction: making a mini with a larger screen.
Apple’s never going to bring the Mac Pro’s cheese-grater design to iPhone, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a laugh out of the idea. A cheeky new iPhone 12 XDR Pro concept video shows just how ridiculous that would look.
It’s short, it’s sweet … and it’s the craziest iPhone concept we’ve seen in a while.
Imran Chaudhri drew this Apple Watch concept sketch long before the release of this wearable. Photo: Imran Chaudhri
Imran Chaudhri, who played a pivotal role in the Apple Watch’s creation, offered an inside look into the device’s design process Friday, showing off an early concept drawing of the smartwatch’s home screen.
His sketch, shared on the 5-year anniversary of the Apple Watch launch, looks amazingly close to what is in use now. He also showed off a video of the very first Apple Watch band and talked about the history of some Watch faces.
No content with one display, an iPhone concept suggests a pair — one removable. Screenshot: Caviar
Rejecting the idea of flexible screens, an artist at Caviar dreamed up an iPhone concept with a detachable secondary display instead. This allows for real multitasking, or the handset to be snapped into a tablet or netbook.
Not stoping there, the artist created a concept video with multiple other innovative iPhone designs that might debut in next decade.

A graphic artist excited about a rumored low-cost iOS model created a video for it. This is a wish list of features for the iPhone SE 2, which could debut in only a few months.
Having an iPad mount an external drive isn’t asking for too much, is it? Photo: Daniel Korpai
A new concept video imagines Apple’s tablet without the limitations on file management that frustrate so many iPad users. In it, the designer combines his re-imagined iOS Files app with earlier work improving multitasking.

Astro HQ, makers of Luna Display, dreamed up a macOS laptop concept with a foldable display that covers the entire interior of the MacBook. The design includes a touchscreen and Apple Pencil support.
Artists’ concepts are often impractical dreams for the future but a version of this can be assembled right now. Sort of.

A new video wraps up all the unconfirmed reports about Apples next handset. And there’s a lot to work with. Details about the iPhone 11 have been leaking out steadily, even though the launch is still half a year away.

One way to make the iPhone’s screen larger without increasing the size of the device itself is wrap it around all four edges. An artist‘s video imagines how such an iOS handset would look, with no physical buttons and an under-screen camera.
Perhaps the MacBook should adopt split-screen multitasking instead of floating windows. Photo: Thomas Weinreich
Many people want their iPad to work more like a MacBook. A concept video proposes the opposite: having macOS function more like iOS on a tablet. That means no more free-floating windows.

An artist dreaming up ideas for Apple’s next handset suggests bringing side-by-side multitasking from the iPad to the iPhone. He also proposes Apple create a super-slim wireless clip-on battery.

The notch at the top of the iPhone display has become a familiar part of recent models, but one designer considered another option. He created an iPhone XI mockup with a small hole in the screen instead.

An artist created a vision for a set of augmented reality glasses running a new Apple operating system. His concept video is built around the strong evidence that Apple is designing just such a product.

A sketchy rumor or two indicates that a replacement for the iPhone SE is in development, and an artist ran with this idea to create a video of an updated version of this low-cost handset.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of Apple’s colorful iMac G3, the computer Steve Jobs said looked good enough to lick. While Apple has long since moved away from this fun design in favor of the sleekly minimalist iMac of today, Apple fans still remember the G3 fondly. One of those fans, talented designer Antonio De Rosa, recently paid homage to Apple’s first-gen iMac by putting together some retro iMac concept art for what a new iMac in the same style might look like.
Check out De Rosa’s designs below and ask yourself: Would you buy one?
