TikTok enjoyed another month atop the App Store in April, according to a new report from app analytics platform Sensor Tower.
It received a massive 59 million installs that month, across both iOS and Android. That’s ever so slightly up from March, when it racked up just over 58 million downloads.
The No. 1 audience for TikTok in April was Brazil, which accounted for 13% of downloads. China, where the app is called Douyin, accounted for 12% of downloads.
In terms of iOS rankings, TikTok was followed by YouTube, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, CapCut, Gmail and Google Maps.
Facebook — which ranked No. 2 worldwide after TikTok, across iOS and Android — garnered 53 million downloads in the month.
TikTok boom continues
TikTok has now dominated the App Store for more than a year. Since April 2020, it stayed in the top spot every month except August, when YouTube briefly overtook it. It’s an incredibly impressive record, especially when you consider that buzz-worthy apps sometimes struggle to transition into long-term commercial prospects.
Social audio app Clubhouse, for instance, already experienced a steep drop-off in downloads after peaking earlier this year. Like Clubhouse, other companies are trying their best to copy TikTok’s magic — but they can seemingly do nothing more than sit by and admire as it dominates the rankings each month.
