iPhone 16 renders bring latest leaks to life

The iPhone 16 camera bump will shrink considerably, according to new CAD renders that supposedly show the future device. The customizable Action button from the iPhone 15 Pro models will appear on entry-level iPhones as well.

In addition, simulated images based on the renders show possible color options for the upcoming handset.

Take an early look at redesigned 2024 iPhone 16

While the iPhone 16 isn’t expected until fall 2024, it’s not unusual for CAD drawings of upcoming Apple models to leak out months early. Often, these leaked iPhone CAD renders turn out to be substantially correct. It happened with the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and before. While that’s not a guarantee that the new images are accurate, neither should they be dismissed as simple fakes.

The CAD render from the tipster who calls themselves Majin Bu shows what’s allegedly the iPhone 16 base model, not the Plus or Pro versions.

The image indicates that the camera hump in the next iOS handset will be close to half the current size, with the LED flash now outside of the hump. The design, featuring two lenses one atop the other, harks back to the iPhone X.

That same leaked schematic indicates the customizable Action button that premiered in the iPhone 15 Pro will appear on this year’s base model.

It’s not clear from the render if the handset will have solid-state volume and power buttons. Rumored to appear in iPhone 15 Pro models, the fancy buttons didn’t happen due to “unresolved technical issues.”

Also unclear is how rounded the 2024 iPhone’s edges will be.

So pretty

Majin Bu also used the CAD render to create images of what the iPhone 16 might look like in the real world. They even used a variety of potential color options to add a bit of verisimilitude.

We won’t know whether these images are accurate for many months. As noted, you shouldn’t expect the iPhone 16 until fall – probably in September. It likely will be joined by three other versions, including a larger Plus variant and two more-powerful Pro variants, just like the 2023 iPhone lineup.

The most significant potential change change to the 2024 iPhones won’t show up in pictures, though. Apple CEO Tim Cook already dropped hints that iOS 18 will bring real artificial intelligence enhancements.
