Today’s featured computer setup isn’t turning heads for its Apple gear — just a 2019 MacBook Pro — but its displays deserve a good look. The Mac goes through a Razer Thunderbolt 3 dock as it drives an “odd couple” of displays — a huge, curved LG 5K2K monitor and a tiny LG portable display.

And don’t miss the audio gear in the gear list below, either. It’s good stuff.

Setup’s 2019 MacBook Pro drives massive LG 5K2K monitor

Redditor designforthepeople (“Des”) showcased the setup-with-cat in a post entitled, “Getting settled into the new space.”

“Finally got my [MacBook Pro] work setup back to normal after the move (3rd monitor broke so getting used to these two for now),”  Des wrote. “Second picture because Spice (the chonker) wanted to pose.”

“Chonker” means cat, apparently. And in the second photo, below, Spice looks to be passed out.

An odd couple of displays from LG

Des’ aging MacBook Pro hooks up to a Razer Thunderbolt 3 dock to drive a big, beautiful 40-inch LG UltraWide curved 5K2K display (5120 x 2160 pixel resolution).

The high-def display features a virtually borderless design, DCI-P3 98% color gamut with HDR10 technology, two 10W speakers and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity with 96W power delivery for the laptop. A BenQ ScreenBar Monitor Light and a Razer Kiyo Pro Streaming Webcam sit on top of the monitor.

While the setup had three displays before one broke in a move, it now has two, and the second one is unusual. It’s a 16-inch LG Gram portable monitor. It sits on an angle between the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini Wireless Keyboard and the big LG display. The little guy weighs just a pound and a half and features a non-reflective IPS display and a DCI-P3 99% color gamut for  brilliant colors.

Excellent audio gear

Des’ setup also features a formidable array of audio gear that any streamer might envy.

Sound in the room comes from a pair of Kanto YU2 desktop speakers. Sound in the ears goes through two sets of headphones — Sony MDR7056 wired monitors and Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones with noise cancelling.

And then there’s the “Schiit stack” we see here and there among users serious about sound. Des uses a Schiit Magni headphone amp and preamp for his cans plus a Schiit Modi digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to get natural-sounding audio.
