Apple rolled out yellow versions of its iPhone 14 and 14 Plus handsets Tuesday as part of a typical midcycle refresh. The new color joins midnight, starlight, Product(Red), blue and purple in the lineup. Apple made four new silicone case colors available, too.
You can preorder the new yellow iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus as of Friday. The new phones arrive in stores on March 14, Apple said. The cases are available now.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus now available in new yellow color
Apple introduced the new iPhone 14 color almost exactly a year after the last midcycle color refresh — two shades of green for different iPhone 13 models.
“People love their iPhone and rely on it every day for all that they do, and now there’s an exciting addition to the lineup with a new yellow iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of worldwide product marketing, in a press release.
“The extraordinary battery life, lightweight design, pro-level camera and video features, groundbreaking safety capabilities like Emergency SOS via satellite, and all iOS 16 has to offer make iPhone 14 a great option for anyone in the market for a new iPhone,” he added.
No new features or functionality
As with previous such moves, it’s just a new color, not a handset with new features or functionality, according to Bloomberg. The publication also predicted the “imminent” release of the new yellow iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. And while eye-catching, it’s not Apple’s first yellow iPhone. The 2013 iPhone 5c and the 2018 iPhone XR came in yellow.
New colors goose consumer interest in the iPhone lineup ahead of the next model release, iPhone 15.
There’s no word yet on whether the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get new colors at some point.
New iPhone case colors
Besides this year’s sunny new iPhone 14 hue, Apple typically refreshes its collections of iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands in spring. Usually those involve new colors, as well, and four new iPhone cases came out Tuesday.
