High praise for hard-to-find Bose speakers [Setups]

The main gear in a computer setup might be perfectly impressive, like the Mac Studio desktop machine in today’s featured setup. But that’s not what everyone looking at the workstation notices and talks about on social media.

Instead, the coveted items in this particular setup are a Bose speaker system folks are having a hard time finding, plus a Belkin Continuity Camera mount that helps you use an iPhone as a webcam.

Mac Studio setup’s Bose speakers and Belkin mount for Continuity Camera win praise

Redditor Federico_Rosellini showcased the setup in a post entitled, “I’m a Mac user but also a window person.”

Don’t bother looking for a PC in the photo, his title just includes a little joke. There’s a big window next to his setup. Some commenters said they fell for it, even though Rosellini included this beneath the photo: “Just love having my setup by the window.”

He runs a Mac Studio with a 32-inch QHD gaming display.

“This might be the one component I need to upgrade,” he said of the monitor, without elaboration.

But most commenters wanted to know about the Bose speakers, the Companion 5 system. You can see one small speaker to the left of the display in the photo. The other speaker is out of frame to the right, and a subwoofer sits on the floor.

“Do you know anywhere still selling your Bose speakers? I’ve looked for so long and can’t find them anymore I love the touch control dot thing and the speakers,” asked one commenter.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do when these speakers die. They’re the best ever,” Rosellini replied. “I occasionally see them on FB Market being offered but maybe not in the best shape. Have you tried that? If you’re in the US there are many sets available on eBay starting in the $225-$275 range … ”

But not everyone had praise for the system.

“The only thing that bothers me about these speakers is how they go on standby by themselves,” noted one person. “Any chance you’ve figured out a way to leave them green/on always?”

“Yeah, if the Mac goes to sleep they also go to standby,” Rosellini replied. “But it’s not a deal beaker for me. They do sound amazing.”

We found the speaker system new on Amazon for $468 and used on eBay for $249. See the links below.

Belkin iPhone MagSafe mount for Continuity Camera

The other hot item in the setup was a little Belkin mount on the HP display for an iPhone, so Rosellini can use it as a webcam via Continuity Camera in macOS Ventura.

“How is the MagSafe continuity phone holder?” asked a commenter. “Do you leave the phone up there all the time [or] add and remove as necessary. And what’s battery like when it’s being used? I’m hoping for a charging version as I do 4-6 hours on Zoom/Teams a day.”

“The Continuity [Camera] holder (by Belkin) works great,” Rosellini replied. “I leave the phone there. The only issue I have right now is that FT will say there’s no camera available and I have to restart to fix. I have the [iPhone] 14 Pro Max, so battery life is really good. But just in case, I keep a MagSafe charger on my desk at all times (dual for AirPods too).”
