A Monster’s Expedition isn‘t the usual puzzle game. It sets itself apart by being an open world. The goal is to make play more relaxing because if someone gets stuck on a particular puzzle, they can head off in another direction. And, of course, there’s a cute little monster involved.

The game debuted Thursday on Apple Arcade, the Mac-maker’s subscription gaming service.

Explore the history of mythical ‘human’ creatures in A Monster’s Expedition

The story behind the puzzles is of a young monster curious to learn more about mythical humans. His travels include a visit to the “Human Englandland” dig site, with funny guesses about what the artifacts were used for.

Game mechanics involve pushing over trees to create pathways among hundreds of islands. The developer, Draknek Limited, made a video to demonstrate:

This is a single-player game for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. External controllers are supported, in addition to device touchscreens.

Launches today on Apple Arcade

A Monster’s Expedition is already on Apple Arcade. Playing requires a $4.99-per-month subscription, but that also includes access to over 100 other titles. And there are no other costs — in-app purchases, ads and gambling on loot boxes are all banned. And new games launch almost every week.

Similar additions to recently debut on this service include The Last Campfire and World’s End Club. And there’s The Lullaby of Life.
