Ahead of Earth Day on April 22, Apple TV+ debuted Friday a new animated short movie titled Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth. Featuring an impressive cast of voice talents including the much celebrated Meryl Streep, Chris O’Dowd, Preacher‘s Ruth Negga, and Room‘s Jacob Tremblay, the half-hour animated short is available to watch for subscribers right now.

Apple TV+ also debuted a new show about spectacular houses around the world.

Here We Are is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Oliver Jeffers. The book topped the New York Times Bestseller list in its debut in 2017. It also won Time Magazine‘s 2017 “Best Book of the Year” award. This was. in the Young Adult and Children’s Books category.

Following the same story, the new Apple TV+ animation follows a precocious 7-year-old who is taught lessons about what makes the world special. Meryl Streep narrates.

The film is directed by Philip Hunt, who has previously directed several shorts.

Apple TV+ celebrates Earth Day

Apple has long played an active part in celebrating Earth Day. Every year, it turns the logo at its Apple Stores green, while Apple Store workers wear green shirts to work. This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, that won’t happen, of course. Apple Stores are closed nearly everywhere — with the exception of China and South Korea. But this short film serves as a neat reminder of why we should not take our planet for granted. It’s likely that Apple will also offer a reminder, come next week, of all its conservation efforts.

Home comes to Apple TV+

Apple’s second new show for Friday is Home, a nine-part series about people who live in particularly imaginative and unusual houses. The documentary series takes viewers “inside the world’s most extraordinary homes and unveils the boundary-pushing imagination of the visionaries who dared to dream and build them.”

Locations the show will visit include Sweden, Bali, Chicago, Hong Kong, Maine, India, Malibu, Austin, and Mexico. Each episode of Home is around 30 minutes long.

Apple TV+ is available for a monthly subscription of $4.99. Alternatively, customers who have bought a new iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV get a one-year subscription for free.
