Apple TV+ is adding Damages and Bridesmaids star Rose Byrne to its growing stable of stars. The streaming service is reportedly “preparing to give a series order” to a new series titled Physical, starring Byrne.

The show, which will blend comedic and drama elements, is set in a 1980s SoCal beach community. Rose Byrne plays a housewife who finds new fulfilment in the world of aerobics.

Physical is written and executive produced by Almost Family creator Annie Weisman. Weisman will also be show runner. In addition, Dirty John showrunner Alexandra Cunningham will be an executive producer, alongside Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios.

There are no more details on the plot, but the name (and casting of an Australian actor) certainly recalls the 80s Olivia Newton-John hit Physical. Here’s a reminder of what the double platinum hit was all about:

There’s no word on when Physical will hit Apple TV+. However, it will be part of an exciting second (or possibly third?) wave of shows as Apple builds its streaming service. Other upcoming shows include the comedy Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, Defending Jacob, and Amazing Stories.

Apple has also confirmed second seasons for hit shows such as The Morning Show, See, and For All Mankind.

Apple hasn’t yet revealed any metrics to indicate how popular Apple TV+ is. But a recent piece of research by a market analysis firm suggested that six of the 10 most popular streaming series premiering last quarter were made by Apple. Apple TV+ shows have also started to rack up award wins, which is surely good news for anyone looking to sign up for Apple series.
