Itching to get your Apex Legends fix on the go? The good news is that EA has already confirmed a mobile port is on the way. The bad news is that there is going to be a very lengthy wait for it.
A recent update from EA CEO Andrew Wilson revealed the game won’t be available for at least a year.
Apex Legends is the only battle royale game that has really given Fortnite a run for its money in the last two years. It got off to an incredible start, attracting 25 million players in its first week.
EA now wants to capitalize on Apex Legends’ success by expanding its reach with a mobile port — just like Epic Games did with Fortnite. But it’s going to take a while.
Apex Legends won’t hit mobile for at least a year
Wilson this week revealed Apex Legends for mobile will be available sometime during EA’s fiscal year 2021. That means we won’t see it until after October 1, 2020.
If we’re lucky, we’ll be waiting around 11 months. But it could be the best part of two years before Apex Legends graces Android and iOS. And a lot could change in that time.
Here’s to hoping Apex Legends doesn’t fall out of favor in the meantime and EA scraps the plan completely. That seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened in gaming.
Apex just kicked off its third season, featuring brand-new content and a new Battle Pass, so fans have no interest in jumping ship for other games just yet.
Mobile gaming better than ever
Despite the lengthy wait, the expansion of Apex Legends is another step toward a new future for mobile gaming.
Surely it won’t be long before brand-new titles are hitting iPhone and iPad at the same time as they roll out on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
