Update: Beats’ new wireless Powerbeats Pro earbuds are now available for pre-order, ahead of going on sale May 10.

The earbuds are available in black to begin with. Ivory, moss, and navy color options will follow some time this summer.

The Powerbeats Pro are the first truly wireless earbuds to come out of the Beats by Dre line. They’re very similar to Apple’s next-gen AirPods, but boast improved sweat and water resistance. (Both of which make sense, given that these are targeted at athletes.) They include the same H1 wireless chip found in the AirPods 2, which launched recently. They also feature a superior battery, which should give you 9 hours of listening, compared to 5 hours for the AirPods.

Apple notes that, “Completely re-engineered from the inside out, the earphones boast an upgraded linear piston driver that leverages an efficient, pressurized airflow to create a powerful acoustic response in a small package. Enhanced sound quality means incredibly low distortion and great dynamic range across the entire frequency curve.”

Given that AirPods are one of Apple’s top sellers, it will be interesting to see how the Powerbeats Pro do in terms of sales. While they’re certainly not cheap, they’re definitely stylish and packed with features. Of course, some people may still want to wait for the AirPods 3 that are supposedly launching before the end of the year.
