Former Game of Thrones and current Aquaman actor Jason Momoa is set to star in another new Apple original series.

Called See, the show is an epic, world-building drama that’s set in the future. Momoa will play the lead role of Baba Voss, described by trade magazine Variety as, “a fearless warrior, leader and guardian.” So a totally different type of role for Momoa, then!

The series will be directed and executive produced by Francis Lawrence, who previously helmed the post-apocalyptic horror movie I Am Legend, and three of the four films in the Hunger Games saga. It is being written and co-executive produced by Steven Knight, who has written extensively for Peaky Blinders.

Apple’s original TV plans

Apple has so far signed around 20 different TV shows into development — in addition to the non-scripted series such as Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps it has already released. While most of these are in the drama or comedy categories, Apple has also ventured into content including documentaries, music videos, a possible animated feature film, and more.

Momoa is far from the only “name” actor to sign on for an Apple show. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Aaron Paul and others are all signed up. Recently, Kristen Wiig — who was supposed to play the lead in one Apple series — dropped out of one shoe, reportedly due to scheduling difficulties.

Other talent signed by Apple in various capacities include Steven Spielberg, M. Night Shyamalan, Oprah Winfrey, Ron Howard, and others. What Apple has yet to make clear, however, is how it will be distributing these shows. Popular theories range from giving them away via Apple’s TV app to launching its own Netflix-style streaming subscription service.
