Next-day delivery of iPhone X is a sprinkling of Christmas magic

iPhone X supply has seemingly caught up with demand, as the Apple Online Store is now offering next day delivery for its next-gen iPhone.

All models are available in the U.S. Apple Store, marking something of a Christmas miracle for Apple — when you consider that the majority of pre-release reports suggested that the iPhone X wouldn’t be shipping to most customers until some time in 2018.

After several years of new iPhones being next to impossible to find early on, this year’s tenth anniversary iPhone X truly showed off Apple’s operations wizardry.

Right from the start, things got off on the right foot when pre-orders that were originally scheduled to arrive in late November began shipping at the start of November instead. Apple soon revised availability estimates to include shipping estimates of under three weeks, before revising this to 1-2 weeks, then a single week, and then less than that.

A massive achievement for Apple?

According to respected Apple analyst KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, Foxconn is currently shipping 440,000 to 550,000 iPhone X units per day, representing an enormous increase on the 50,000 to 100,000 units being shipped each day just a couple months back.

A few naysayers have tried to dampen the Christmas spirit by suggesting that the greater availability of the iPhone X suggests that the iPhone may not be doing as well as expected. Cowen analyst Karl Ackerman has suggested that sales are “good,” but possibly not as good as anticipated.

Recently, Apple began offering its customary free next-day holiday delivery for any in-stock items ordered up until 3pm local time on December 22 in the United States. (If you’re thinking of ordering a gift, devices and accessories bought through December 25 are eligible for return until January 8, 2018.)

Not every Apple product is faring quite so well as the iPhone X in terms of availability, however. Earlier today, we reported how Apple’s wireless AirPods — one year after launch — are currently out of stock, meaning you’re unlikely to get hold of any before the holidays.

Still, as far as the iPhone X goes, Apple deserves major props for completely over-delivering in terms of expectations. Whether demand is merely “good” or excellent, the fact is that Apple has found a way to get the new iPhones into new customers’ hands as quickly as possible. That’s great news!
