The latest version of the YouTube app finally addresses a frustrating battery drain issue on iOS. Version 12.45 is available to download now from the App Store, and we recommend you get yours hands on it as soon as possible.

Many iPhone and iPad users have been reporting significant battery drain and abnormally warm devices when using the YouTube app under iOS 11. Some found that watching video for just 15 minutes could knock more than 10 percent off their battery life.

YouTube is fixed

It’s not totally clear what caused the problem, but it was incredibly concerning for those who use the YouTube app frequently. Watching video on an iPhone or iPad — even when it’s streaming over cellular or Wi-Fi — should not cause batteries to drain so quickly.

But we need not worry about it anymore. YouTube version 12.45 has landed, fixing “an issue with battery usage.” You can download it now from the App Store.
