Ask Siri to divide zero by zero and get ready for an hilarious insult

Compared to more sedate virtual assistants like Google Now, Siri has always had a reputation for snark — whether it’s answering every annoying hypothetical question we can throw at it with equally sarcastic answers, or getting amusingly annoyed when we confuse him/her with rival AI assistants.

A newly-discovered Siri Easter Egg swept the Twittersphere on Monday, however. Asking Siri to divide zero by zero may sound like a basic math question, but the result is pure offbeat hilarity.

And just a bit mean, too.

“Imagine that you have zero cookies and you split them evenly among zero friends,” Siri says. “How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.”

The user responses were predictably amusing, too, as this selection shows:

Of course, this is just the latest in a long history of Siri put-downs. Ask Siri to read you a haiku, for instance, and the virtual assistant will respond with, “Sometimes I wonder / What it would be like to say / “I’d prefer not to.’ Tell Siri that you’re naked, meanwhile, and he/she will reply, “I don’t understand what you mean by ‘naked.’ Or at least I’m going to pretend that I don’t.”

Finally, get a bit too forward and ask Siri what he/she is doing later and the reply will be, “I’m working on some pickup lines.”

Ouch! Well played, Siri. Well played.
