Apple is expected to unveil the next-generation iPad Pro at the end of this month. An industrial design student from Hungary. just couldn’t wait.
He created a collection of images of this upcoming tablet showcasing the significant redesign that’s been all over the Internet. The rumored USB-C port isn’t overlooked either.
Apple has confirmed its pricing for iPhone XR repairs and it’s surprisingly reasonable.
It will certainly leave a dent in your bank account if you break your screen without AppleCare+, but repairing an iPhone XR doesn’t cost much more than repairing an iPhone 8. It’s considerably cheaper than fixing an iPhone XS or XS Max.
Super Micro is accused of manufacturing hardware containing Chinese spy chips. Photo: JÉSHOOTS/Pexels
Super Micro Computer, the manufacturer of technology accused by Bloomberg of containing Chinese spy chips, has said that it will carry out a review of its own hardware.
This isn’t any kind of admission on its part, however. In a letter to customers, the firm noted how, “Despite the lack of any proof that a malicious hardware chip exists, we are undertaking a complicated and time-consuming review to further address the article.”
This ukulele's fretboard lights up to show you exactly how to play your favorite songs. Photo: Cult of Mac Deals
Learning an instrument is one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself (maybe not for your neighbors). But it’s also one of the hardest things to make time for, even for relatively easy instruments like the ukulele. So this high-tech uke has education built-in.
150 items come from Jobs' former home in Woodside, California. Photo: Jonathan Haeber, Bearings
Do you want to own a chandelier that once belonged to Steve Jobs? How about a Jobs-owned thermostat, originally made in 1925? Or a silver-plated tea spoon? Or, heck, even Jobs’ old toilet? These, and roughly 146 more possessions, could soon be going up for auction.
At least, if some members of the Woodside town council, the small incorporated town in San Mateo County, where Steve Jobs once had a home, get their way.
The Mujjo Full Leather Wallet Case for the iPhone XS Max looks great from any angle. Photo: Mujjo
There are quite a few iPhone cases that can also function as wallets and Mujjo makes the best we’ve tried. There are other options that provide more features but this one gets all the basics just right.

Why are Waymo's self-driving cars involved in so many more crashes than Apple's? Image: Aristomenis Tsirbas/Freelancer
A car designed to test Apple’s self-driving system was involved in a minor accident Monday, but a human was driving at the time. This is only the second such crash of an Apple car on record.
Google, and its autonomous vehicle spinoff Waymo, haven’t been so lucky over the years.
This week we shoot and edit video with Adobe’s new Premier Rush, get into the long-awaited Drafts for Mac beta, and clean up our Photo Library with BestPhotos.
Extreme hardware hacks are kind of Scotty Allen's thing. Cover: Leander Kahney/Cult of Mac
Millions watched Scotty Allen build an iPhone from parts mined from Chinese electronics markets. While he loves the wild enthusiasm his iPhone-hacking videos spark, he says his Strange Parts series is really a “travel show for geeks.”
You’ll find his inspiring story and much more in this week’s issue of our magazine. It’s free and it’s fun to read on an iPad or iPhone. Get your free subscription to Cult of Mac Magazine from iTunes now. Or read on for this week’s top stories.
A laptop stand is probably one of the few laptop accessories with the highest ROI. Ergonomically speaking, a laptop helps users alleviate neck and back pain from having to hunch over while laptop usage. In addition, users are more productive since the laptop sits at a similar height to a secondary display monitor.
Pump up the jam. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
Let’s have a bit of weekend fun today. We’re going to jam out on GarageBand for iOS with our friends. Imagine it’s 20 years ago, and you and your friends all get together with your instruments, hook them up to a little four-track cassette recorder, and get to rocking out.
Returning back to 2018, you can do something similar. GarageBand’s Jam Session lets you connect up to four iPhones and iPads together, wirelessly, and jam. All four performances are recorded one of the devices, and everything is in sync. And of course you can use any instrument available in GarageBand. One of you can take care of beats, another can lay down a fat bassline, and so on.

Jony Ive says he is “truly proud” of Apple Watch, which he describes as a powerful computer filled with sophisticated sensors that we strap to our wrists. And we can expect Apple to continuing delivering products that are just as special in the future.

Nearly every configuration of the Apple's latest handset is still available hours into launch day. What does this say about iPhone XR sales? Photo: Apple
Apple began taking pre-orders for the iPhone XR early this morning, and there are still plenty of them left hours later. Contrast this with the iPhone XS launch which saw some configurations sell out in minutes.
While this doesn’t automatically indicate that demand for the iPhone XR is slow, it’s not a very good sign either.

Scotty Allen takes his viewers to Strange Parts for unvarnished stories about technology. Photo: Scotty Allen
Millions have watched Scotty Allen build an iPhone from parts mined from the electronics markets of Shenzhen, China.
DIYers and hackers write Allen, eager to repeat his geeky feat. So do people from third-world countries looking for an affordable way to get their hands on a pricey device that imparts status.
Allen, 39, loves the wild enthusiasm his YouTube videos have sparked, but the scratch iPhone isn’t the point.
Former iOS chief Scott Forstall has revealed that the company approached operators in an effort to convince them to take a number of features that make iMessage so great and bring them to traditional texting. But due to a number of reasons, the “explorations didn’t pan out.”
Digital documents and cloud storage have been great for note-takers. The information is available anywhere there’s an internet connection, so there’s no risk of losing your notes or leaving them at home. But when it comes to books, digital capture means either transcribing the page or taking a picture of it. Not so with this futuristic text scanner.

Apple has posted its two new iPhone XR ads to YouTube to promote the device on preorder day.
“Introducing iPhone XR” and “Spectrum” run for less than a minute each, but do a good job of highlighting the new handset’s brightly-colored finishes and its biggest features.
The new Asus ROG Phone doesn't even come close. Photo: Asus
Not even the fastest Android handset comes close to matching the performance of the iPhone.
The new Asus ROG Phone performs better than every other Android in early benchmark tests. It also scores higher than the latest iPad Pro lineup. When it comes to iPhone XS and XS Max, though, the gaming handset is way behind.
The first wave of iPhone XR reviews are in and based on the early impressions, Apple may have a big hit on its hands.
iPhone XR preorders open up at midnight tonight and Apple’s making a big push to get people to upgrade to its cheapest new handset. Instead of just going with traditional news outlets, Apple also gave early iPhone XR units to popular YouTubers, probably in an effort to reach a younger audience.
So far, everyone’s raving about the iPhone XR, even if it is lacking a few features.
With Drafts for Mac, you'll never have to do this again. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
Drafts, the most useful app on iOS, is finally available for the Mac — in beta form at least. The beta can be downloaded right now, but you can only use it if you are already a Drafts Pro subscription. The Mac version of this text-wrangling masterpiece is already super-useful, and will sync perfectly with your existing iPhone and iPad versions.
Thinking the iPhone XR would have been worth the wait? Photo: Apple
Preorders for the iPhone XR start tomorrow at 12:01 a.m. Pacific. If you want to be sure of getting a new handset — in the color you really want — on day one, you probably need to be quick with your preorder. If not, you could be faced with waiting for Apple to fill the backlog of orders before you finally get a new iPhone sometime near Christmas.
Luckily, we have a guide that will help you preorder your iPhone XR the right way when on October 19.
