After Google Buyout, Sparrow Mail App Gets Updated With iPhone 5 And Passbook Support

By

Sparrow iPhone

Popular third-party mail client Sparrow was recently bought by Google, but that hasn’t stopped the app’s developers from pushing out updates for their existing user base. Today Sparrow for iPhone received a long-awaited update that brings support for the iPhone 5’s taller display and iOS 6’s Passbook.

This very update was rejected by Apple earlier this month because of a mixup with Rich Text support in iOS 5. Sparrow has obviously ironed out the kinks with Apple, as users can download the update now in the App Store.

Cellhelmet Case With One-Year Accidental Damage Cover Comes To iPhone 5

No case offers the same level of protection for your iPhone 5 as the Cellhelmet.
No case offers the same level of protection for your iPhone 5 as the Cellhelmet.

Back in February, I told you about an awesome iPhone 4S case called the Cellhelmet, which comes with one year of accidental damage cover absolutely free. If your iPhone gets damaged while inside the case, Cellhelmet will get it repaired or replaced — all you pay is the handling charge.

Now Cellhelmet’s coming to your iPhone 5.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is saying that Apple has basically solved their iPhone 5 supply issues in the United States, and that in a couple weeks, anyone who wants an iPhone will be able to just walk into a store and buy the one they want without any chance of leaving empty handed. Just in time for the holidays!

The golden tones of Jeff Daniels once again grace Apple’s iPhone 5 ad campaign in two new commercials on the official Apple YouTube channel tonight.

The first ad, titled Turkey, is all about Photo Streams and how they’re easily shared with just the people you want to. It’s a fun little commercial, just in time for the US holiday of Thanksgiving, with plenty of puns and, of course, pie.

The second video takes a different tack.

iPhone 5 Online Shipping Times Now At 2 Weeks As Apple Catches Up With Demand

By

Screen Shot 2012-11-19 at 4.28.11 PM

Apple’s online shipping estimates for the iPhone 5 are finally starting to look more reasonable. Last week, orders placed through the Apple Store wouldn’t ship for 2-3 weeks, and now Apple is saying that new orders will arrive in 2 weeks time.

The continued decrease in time it takes to ship means that Apple is finally starting to catch up with demand. We may not see a more normal 1-3ish business day shipping estimate until after the holidays, but things are looking better.

At this point, the safest thing to do is reserve an iPhone 5 for pickup at your local Apple Store. Apple still notes that “iPhone 5 is available in limited quantities” on its website.

The iPhone 5S, Fifth-Gen iPad Could Debut Next Summer, 2013 [Rumor]

By

iphone-5-ipad-mini-september-2012-1

Right now, if Apple sticks with a yearly product release cycle, all of Cupertino’s major products are scheduled to debut next year in October. The iPhone 5S. The iPad mini 2. The iPad 5. New iPod Touch. New iMacs. New MacBooks. All released right before Christmas.

It’s hard to believe that Apple would actually release all of their new products in October next year, though. It not only makes for a boring road map, but it positions all of Apple’s new products during the most expensive holiday of the year: if people want to get, say, a new iPhone and an iPad next year, they might have to choose one or the other, instead of getting both at launch during a more staggered road map.

That’s why there’s something about the latest Digitimes report that makes sense to me: they say the iPhone 5S and next-gen iPad will come out in the middle of next year, or around June or July.

And yes, the BookBook finally has a hole for the iPhone 5’s rear camera.

Braeburn Acoustic Dock For iPhone 5 [Review]

By

braeburn-04

There are almost no iPhone 5 docks available right now, and that’s for two reasons. One is that Apple has only just let manufacturers start including the new Lightning connector in their products. The other is that the new iPhone has only been around for like five minutes.

Braeburn has managed to get around the former problem by asking you to use your own Lightning cable, and the latter by, well — who knows? By being smart and hard-working I guess.

I have been using the aluminum dock for the past week, and it turns out to be pretty neat, although it won’t be for everyone.
