Apple will unveil a new MacBook Pro this month along with a minor update to the MacBook Air lineup, according to the latest Apple rumor out of China.
The big announcement will supposedly happen in June, though it might not happen at WWDC. A “reliable Chinese supplier” claims the new MacBook Pro will ditch USB-A connectors, Thunderbolt 2 and MagSafe 2 charging for USB-C, just like the spy shots we posted, but you’ll have to wait a few more months to get it.
It didn't hurt that Jobs negotiated a sweet deal from Intel! Photo: Apple
When people look back on Steve Jobs’ most audacious moves during his 1997-2011 stint as CEO, launching the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone and iPad are most frequently singled out as rightfully big achievements — as is his decision to open Apple-branded retail outlets and the iTunes Stores.
Back on June 6, 2005, Jobs made another major announcement, however, when he revealed that Macs were switching their CPUs over from PowerPC processors to Intel ones.
Apple today kicked off its latest back to school promotion, offering students big savings on wireless Beats headphones when they purchase a new Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
Eligible customers are also entitled to education pricing, which reduces the cost of their new device.
Is the iPad an overrated education tool? Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Apple has been outspoken about its belief that the iPad can all but replace laptops. Try telling that to the Maine Department of Education, however, who are sending their iPads back to Apple in favor of a swap for MacBook Airs.
According to the report, Apple has agreed to do the “Refresh” swap offer at no additional cost to the school district — which decided to go ahead with it after a survey found that 88.5 percent of teachers and 74 percent of students favored MacBooks over iPads.

TarDisk adds 64GB of flash storage to your MacBook Air via the SD slot, without changing its slim profile. Photo: Cult of Mac Deals
The MacBook Air is delightfully lean, but it’s less than pleasing when its drive space runs thin. It’s a costly hassle to upgrade the internal drive, which makes TarDisk’s 64 gig SD drive expansion a very attractive alternative. It plugs right into the SD slot on the side of your laptop and stays out of the way, for an easy expansion that you can get right now for just $99.99.

Apple’s keynote will offer our first sneak peeks at iOS 10 and the next big upgrades to OS X, watchOS, and tvOS — plus possible refreshes for Apple Watch and various Macs. Will these things make up for the lack of excitement?
