The BMX SolidSafe Air is the MagSafe power bank we’ve been waiting for. It’s a mere 0.27 inches (6.88mm) thin — slimmer than the iPhone 17 I tested it with.
The 5,000mAh iPhone accessory features a semi-solid-state cell design to reduce fire risk and a lightweight titanium build.
Here’s why it was such a pleasure to test out. This is the best MagSafe power bank I’ve ever used.
BMX SolidSafe Air review
There’s something uniquely frustrating about an iPhone dying in the middle of the day because it cuts you off from so many essential parts of modern life all at once.
It’s not just losing a device, it’s losing your map, your wallet, your camera, your messages, your tickets, and often your connection to work or family in a single moment. It gets harder to navigate, quick answers disappear and even small tasks like paying for coffee or checking a confirmation email suddenly turn into obstacles.
That abrupt disconnection is what makes running out of power feel so disruptive, especially when you still have hours left in your day and no easy way to recharge.
Fortunately, there’s a solution: place a MagSafe power bank on your iPhone, and it’s immediately usable again. For hours. And with the BMX SolidSafe Air, the benefit comes in a super-slim package.
The BMX SolidSafe Air is a 5,000mAh, 6.88mm-thin magnetic power bank with Qi2 15W wireless charging, designed for iPhone MagSafe compatibility. It features a semi-solid-state cell design to reduce fire risk and a lightweight titanium build.

Damn, this MagSafe power bank is thin!

The 4.0 by 2.75 dimensions of the accessory are determined by the need to fit on the back of an iPhone. The 0.27-inch thickness is sheer technical wizardry — less than half the size of its rivals.
Of course, it fits in a pocket. Any MagSafe power bank does that. But this one fits easily. My pocket looks empty. The BMX SolidSafe Air is so slim, it’s almost too small — I can lose it under a sheet of paper. And that’s a good problem to have.
It weighs 0.26 pounds, which is typical for this type of accessory, though its rivals are thicker. Which means it’s dense.
That’s because the battery inside uses semi-solid-state cell technology, rather than the usual completely liquid electrolyte. That’s the secret of the svelte shape.
This also reduces the fire risk, as there’s less flammable liquid content. It’s an advantage BMX leans into.
“BMX conducts internal puncture testing using drills, cutting tools, and nails to observe cell behaviour under direct mechanical damage, where traditional lithium-ion cells are more prone to thermal runaway,” boasted the accessory maker.
The exterior of the SolidSafe Air is made of titanium, and the product is available in silver, gold and black. One of my reviews units is black, and I love the look — it matches my iPhone 17 very well. The other is silver, and it’s so very, very shiny.
Power wherever you go

Thanks to support for Qi2, this MagSafe power bank supports 15W wireless charging. No cables needed. Just put the accessory on the back of your iPhone, and power will start flowing.
MagSafe is built into every recent iOS model except the iPhone 16e. Magnets in the handset match with ones in the accessory so they cling tightly together. It’s tremendously convenient, as long as you’re not using a case so thick that blocks the connection.
In my testing, wireless charging raised the battery level of my iPhone about 14% in half an hour. That’s not particularly quick, but it’s fast enough to be useful.
The BMX SolidSafe Air raised the battery level of my iPhone 17 by 83% before running out. That’s enough for a second day of use — and amazing for a battery this small.
Recharge via USB-C

The accessory includes a USB-C port on one end. That’s how you charge its internal battery. It takes close to three hours taking in power at up to 14W, so give it some time.
This same port can be used to juice up non-MagSafe devices, like an iPad. In my test, the BMX SolidSafe Air sent almost 19 watts of power to my iPad Pro. Of course, this 5,000 mAh battery couldn’t come close to fully recharging the tablet, but it added some useful life.
BMX SolidSafe Air review: Final thoughts

It’s hard to beat the convenience of a power bank that only needs to be placed on the back of your iPhone to charge it up. And when it’s as thin as this one? Brilliant.
I love this thing. Love. It.
