Apple premieres TV+ show Dickinson at Tribeca Festival

Apple’s original TV series Dickinson made its debut at the Tribeca TV Festival this weekend. The series is about the life of poet Emily Dickinson.

This is the first time the public has seen one of Apple’s new TV+ shows. The show will officially debut on November 1 when Apple TV+ launches.

The Apple board of directors just lost a powerful member: Disney CEO Bob Iger. His resignation, revealed by an Apple filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, comes as Disney and Apple prepare to launch competing streaming services.

Meanwhile, the new Disney offering garnered a rave early review that called it “more addictive than heroin.”

Struggling movie subscription service MoviePass revealed today that it will completely shut down on Saturday, September 14.

The service gained viral popularity in 2017 when it changed its business model allowing subscribers to watch an unlimited number of movies a month for just $10. After exploring a bunch of different pricing models since, the company hasn’t been able to turn a profit.

YouTube is about to get swarmed with new iPhone 11 stress test videos starting on September 20 but Apple just beat everyone to the punch with its latest ad that shows this year’s iPhone is the toughest yet.

Apple dropped two new iPhone 11 Pro ads this morning showing off the durability of the new phones and the triple-camera system. Both ads take place in a grungy sci-fi testing chamber where everything from broccoli to a wedding cake is thrown at the iPhone. Each ad is a minute long and if you don’t fall in love with the fluffy dog in the camera video then you have no heart.

Samsung’s unleashed its latest attack ad on Apple this morning as fans queued up online to pre-order the new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The short ad tells iPhone lovers to switch to the Galaxy Note10 because it has one feature the new iPhones can’t match: Live Focus video.

House Judiciary Committee leaders want Tim Cook to turn over his emails and other information as part of a possible antitrust investigation.

Cook is one of dozens of executives from Apple, Facebook, Google parent company Alphabet and Amazon named in the request. It follows increased scrutiny of Apple, particularly surrounding the way that it runs the App Store — and possible conflicts of interest that result.

A new rumor claims the 2019 iPhones come with the necessary hardware, but Apple disabled the functionality in iOS. If true, Apple could activate the feature for iPhone 11 owners at a later date.

Google agrees to pay France $1.1 billion to end tax investigation

Google will pay a total of $1.1 billion to end a four-year probe into its tax activities in France. This is a combination of fine and repayment of additional taxes Google didn’t pay first time around.

France and Germany have both pushed for tighter tax regulations of multination tech giants. Others — Apple included — have been charged in the past. They may have to stump up more cash in the future, too.
