Whole Foods will soon become an Amazon subsidiary. Photo: Whole Foods
Amazon is coughing up a whopping $13.7 billion in cash to acquire Whole Foods Market.
The two companies will merge but Whole Foods stores will continue to operate independently, with co-founder John Mackey retaining his role as CEO. The move instantly gives Amazon almost as many stores as Apple.
You can thank Microsoft for this... apparently. Photo: Apple
In love with your new iPad Pro? You can thank Microsoft for that.
Microsoft executive Ryan Gavin claims Apple’s latest take on tablets wouldn’t have happened without the Surface Pro. It is a “clear example” that the company is following Microsoft’s move into ultraportable 2-in-1 machines.

I could be the poster boy for Apple’s “iPad problem.”
That problem, in a nutshell, is this: Even long-in-the-tooth iPads several generations old continue to work just fine for many everyday tasks. That, in turn, slows the upgrade cycle. iPad sales drop, and pundits pile on to declare that Apple is doomed. Again.
I’m one of those cheapskates who couldn’t be bothered to shell out for a new iPad over the past few years but a freak accident — and the surprisingly convincing unveiling of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro at last week’s Worldwide Developers Conference — finally coaxed me out of iPad complacency.
I’m thrilled I finally wised up. The new 10.5-inch iPad Pro is a beast of a machine that’s so fast, smooth and responsive that it makes me feel like I’m in a sci-fi movie interacting with a killer device that hasn’t been invented yet. It feels like the future!

Our iPhones are beautiful and fragile devices. If you’re not crazy, you protect yours with a sturdy case. But even with a ‘premium’ case, you can never be quite sure that your phone won’t break into pieces when the big drop comes.
Despite the MacBook’s svelte design, their batteries last a long time because Apple put a lot of thought into how the hardware and software work together. Still, if you find yourself running out of juice, some simple changes can help you extend your MacBook battery life.
Apple designs its laptops to maximize user productivity and minimize extra work, but following these simple tips will boost MacBook battery life considerably.

Photos of alleged glass panels for the iPhone 8, 7s and 7s Plus. Photo: Reddit
The internet might have just gotten its first real look at the iPhone 8, in the form of “leaked” component photos that offer hints at the possible new design of the highly anticipated device.
Pictures that allegedly show the iPhone 8’s front and rear glass panels got posted online today by a person who claims the parts come from a source in China. While we can’t verify the authenticity of the images, they look legit — and they line up with rumors regarding big changes coming to the iPhone 8.

macOS High Sierra doesn’t pack as many updates as iOS 11, but Apple’s latest desktop software delivers plenty of new features worth drooling over.

When it comes to original programming, this isn't exactly Netflix's House of Cards. Photo: Apple
With its new reality show Planet of the Apps, Apple didn’t try to reinvent the wheel. It slapped a new body on a well-worn vehicle — wannabe entrepreneurs pitching their precious ideas to a panel of questionable celebrity experts — and drove straight to “Meh-ville.”
Sitting on a cash pile of billions, Apple’s not a company that’s used to being left behind. But when it comes to artificial intelligence, that’s exactly what has happened in recent years. While companies like Google and Facebook led the way with cutting-edge AI, Apple lagged. It was embarrassing for a company in Apple’s position to miss out on the single best tech revolution taking place at the moment.

Halide is packed with neat features that are intuitive to use. Photo: Halide/Cult of Mac
Halide is yet another iPhone camera-replacement app, only this is one you’re going to want to use. Why? because it not only adds extra control to the stock camera app, it is also easier to use than Apple’s built-in app. In addition to being one-handed simple, Halide adds power features like manual focus and RAW capture. It’s quite a feat.

The new update packs some huge new features that make iOS more powerful and easier-to-use than ever. Apple’s update is so jam packed that some of the best new additions didn’t even get some stage time at WWDC.

Are you ready for Apple's annual developer conference? Photo: Andy McNally/Cult of Mac
All next week, illustrator and senior UX/UI designer Andy McNally will be sketchnoting Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference for us, starting with the big keynote on Monday.
It is time to get ready for the 2017 WWDC. What should I pack? What pens should I bring? OK, maybe I’m the only one who has to think about what pens and colored markers I need to bring. However, it is critical to remember all of the chargers and cables for our Apple devices.

Here's what we expect from Apple's next big update for watchOS. Photo: Cult of Mac
Apple’s WWDC event is less than a week a way, where it is expected to release big upgrades to its family of operating systems. The youngest Apple platform, watchOS, got some serious improvements in watchOS 3. With the fourth interaction, Apple is expected to squash some of the biggest problems while breathing life with new features too.
Full details on watchOS 4 still haven’t been revealed, but we’ve got some ideas of our own that we’re really hoping made the cut this year.

There are less than two weeks until Apple introduces the next version of macOS at the WWDC. While the rumor mill has been busting out tons of hardware leaks, details have been scant on the software side of things.
Apple is expected to reveal some amazing features for the Mac with the new software update. We still don’t know everything that will be included in macOS 10.13, but of course, we have our own wish list of the features that we really hope make it onto the Mac.
This is what we want to see in Apple’s next big update:
