I am a rummager, capable of picking patiently through a pile of rusty casters to mine four matching couch legs. (Those too-tall ones that came with the couch are irksomely out of proportion. A quest is in order!)
But I love the idea of Yardsale app – which takes advantage of the iPhone’s GPS to find the crap you covet (need!) near you – cutting down on the legwork.
Fire it up on any lazy Saturday and it’ll show you the 50 items (for sale or free) closest to where you are. You can peruse the list while finishing your third cup of coffee or mimosa or whatever and then head out to get that elusive 60s floor lamp with built-in table (actually, if you find one, text me, I want it) without wasting your whole day foraging.
It’s currently available – gratis in iTunes – only for San Francisco, but the amount of languages already offered (Basque, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese) suggest it’ll be coming to a sidewalk near you, soon.
