A questionable report was making the rounds this morning from Taiwan-based publication Digitimes saying that Apple was planning to introduce two new iPads at the Macworld|iWorld conference on January 26th, 2012. The models were said to be targeted for the low-end and high-end consumer markets.
We voiced skepticism about this rumor (which also claimed that the iPad 3 would feature double the battery life and a higher-quality display), and now the Digitimes report has been debunked.
The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple has weighed in on the rumor calling the claims “completely false.” Dalrymple is a respected source for Apple news and was formerly the Editor at Large for Macworld. His track record has proven to be very reliable.
That’s not to say that Apple won’t unveil an iPad 3 in 2012, merely that such an announcement won’t be made at the Macworld|iWorld conference in January.
From The Loop:
I checked with a number of my sources today and an iPad 3 is not planned for release at Macworld. In case you’re wondering, an iPad 3 won’t be released at CES either.
You can also mark a TV off your list for either one of those shows too — it’s not going to happen, according to my sources.
There you have it, folks. This non-news can finally be put to rest.

If not Macworld or CES, then when? :{
Well…that took all of a half a day to debunk what we all knew
Apple’s own event, on their own campus according to their timetable. They haven’t released a product at Macworld or CES in forever.
Low end iPad? 1st gen iPad. Midrange iPad? 2nd gen iPad. High end iPad? 3rd gen iPad. That’s how apple did it with the iPhone, they’ll likely do that with the iPad.
Even TechzTalk says the same thing that no iPad before February.
Non-news. Yet you reported it anyway. Interesting.
Thanks for telling us what we already knew. Now where is that two minutes I just misplaced? I seem to have lost it completely.
Low-End being a cheap ass iPad 3. Missing half the features of a top quality iPad 3.
Doesn’t mean that the iPad 3 won’t happen. Just will be later than January. And the Apple TV too.
Enough of this endless rumor-mongering. Responsible journalists don’t report rumors, they report facts.
