This Slap Kirk game is the Shat

You’d feel better if you could slap your boss. But common sense, workplace rules and a little thing called your bills remind you to check your rage.

A developer and a musician have teamed up to give us an authority figure we can slap silly. Will Capt. James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise do?

The two created Slap Kirk, a pretty simple game that lets you move your computer cursor back and forth to make the Star Trek hero slap himself. A hit count records the number of slaps and your average slaps per minute (because performance metrics matters).

Coder and developer Josh Kowarski and sound designer, Montreal singer and producer Remy Dylan, took a scene out of a Star Trek episode called Plato’s Stepchildren, where the fearless leader of the Enterprise succumbs to the villain, Parmen, whose psychokinetic powers force Kirk to continuously slap himself in the face.

If you want the scene-by-scene backstory of the episode, click here, but the important point is the exhilaration you feel when you build up the slaps to warp speed. If you go fast enough, the screen will flash red and the Enterprise warning siren will sound.

The Plato’s Stepchildren episode made television history when Parmen’s mental powers forced Kirk, played by William Shatner, to kiss Lt. Uhura. It was the first interracial kiss on U.S. television.
