Personally, my favorite thing to do after having any picture taken is seek out the “delete” button. (Even if that entails arm wrestling the well-meaning friend to get at it.)

But you may embrace the idea of having your nose or midsection appear in all its glorious 3D in a photo – if so, a new iPhone app called Snappily 3D is for you.

For $1.99,  it promises to bring photos from your iPhone 4 or iPad 2 into a new dimension. Snapily walks you through the shooting process and you can view the pic in 2D or gyroscope and anaglyph mode if you want to check them out with your 3D specs.

The cool part – assuming you’re not content with looking at your uber-photogenic kids or too-cute-for words- dog in 3D from your device – is that Snapily will print them for you starting at $3.99.

Products include business cards ($13.99 for 20) and personalized stationary invitations or announcements, they run $3.99 for 12. Flip notebooks and 3D notebooks are also available but photo cards are currently the best sellers.

You can preview your 3D pics for the prints onsite – without needing special glasses – to see what you’re getting into. It might not be so bad. Check out the above clip from ABC with a sample of Dolly Parton in all her 3D-glory if you don’t believe me.

“We’re going to see more and more 3D, including cameras,” said Snapily CEO Vered Levy-Ron.

Consider yourself forewarned.

COOL!!! Or you could just get an EVO 3D, and your pics will actually be in 3D without “specs”.

Hmm. They trumpet that they are the FIRST! APP! to take 3D photos on iPhone… but I’ve had the 3D Camera app on my phone for ages. Maybe they should do a quick search of the app store before they make unfair and outlandish claims.

    Thanks for reviewing our app!

I just wanted to point out one key difference between Snapily 3D and the rest of 3D photo apps: Snapily 3D creates multi-angle 3D photos that can be printed and the rest of apps create only a stereo pair (2 viewing angles), that cannot be printed. This is because 3D lenticular printing requires at least 8 viewing angles to provide the 3D/depth illusion and this is the reason why our app requires taking panoramic shots, moving the camera across the scene in a sweeping motion (see our in-app tutorial for details), and the processing time takes longer. We continue working on improving the app, including more cool features, support of other mobile platforms, 3D photo community and so on. I hope everyone enjoys it :)Anton BarVP R&D, HumanEyes Technologies Ltd.antonb (at) humaneyes (dot) com

Please read my comment. It’s the first app that allows to print 3D photos. The other apps only make 2 viewing angle that cannot(!) be printed under no circumstances. Drop me an email if you’re interested in any further details.

Our 3D photo prints do not require specs, that’s just for preview on iOS device or sharing. BTW you can’t have high quality prints from regular dual lens cameras / phones. A high quality 3d print requires at least 8 viewing angles.

  6. Gene says:

Actually, your app’s description begins with:
The world’s 1st App for taking amazing 3D photos, directly with your iPhone

  7. Gene says:

Not to beat a dead horse here, but, Nicole – is this a “review,” i.e., did you use the app? ‘Cos it seems like you are just reprinting information for the app website and a fluffy television spot.

  8. Anton Bar says:

it actually says “taking and printing”, but nevermind, we can’t make everyone happy.
