Apple TV+ will give Peanuts fans something to sing about this summer. Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical premieres July 18, 2025, marking the first musical special featuring Charles Schulz’s beloved characters in over three decades.

Marking Peanuts‘ 75th anniversary, the new special sees Snoopy and the gang bring summer camp nostalgia to life with original songs by Jeff Morrow and Ben Folds.

The 40-minute special arrives during the 75th anniversary celebration of the Peanuts franchise, bringing a fresh musical adventure to longtime fans while introducing Charlie Brown, Snoopy and other characters cherished in newspaper comic strips and TV specials for decades to a new generation of viewers. The most-recent previous Peanuts musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, aired on TV in 1985 as an animated special after it was first staged as a live theatrical musical in 1967.

A Summer Musical centers on a cherished summer camp facing closure due to declining attendance, according to the streamer’s plot summary. For Charlie Brown, who treasures his camp experiences, the news is devastating as he embarks on what should be his memorable final year. Meanwhile, his sister Sally arrives as a first-time camper, nervous about the unfamiliar surroundings.

Parallel adventures and musical theme

In classic Peanuts fashion, a parallel adventure unfolds as Snoopy and Woodstock discover a treasure map that leads them not to riches but to forgotten musical instruments and photographs from the camp’s past concert traditions. This discovery inspires Charlie Brown and friends to organize their own musical event in hopes of saving their beloved summer haven.

The special features original music composed by Emmy Award nominees Jeff Morrow and Ben Folds, bringing a contemporary musical touch to the iconic characters while honoring their timeless appeal. Folds, known for his work as a singer-songwriter and composer, also brings his credentials as a New York Times bestselling author to the production.

For Apple TV+ subscribers who grew up watching Peanuts holiday specials, A Summer Musical offers a nostalgic return to characters who have been part of American culture for generations. They explore themes of friendship, perseverance and the importance of preserving meaningful traditions.

Schulz family legacy

The special is directed by Erik Wiese and written by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, and Cornelius Uliano, keeping the creative vision within the Schulz family legacy. Craig and Bryan Schulz, along with Uliano, Paige Braddock, Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts and Logan McPherson serve as executive producers.

This latest addition joins Apple TV+’s growing collection of Peanuts content, which has earned 27 award nominations and four wins since 2020. The platform remains the exclusive streaming home for both new Peanuts productions and beloved classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

For Apple users who maintain their subscriptions primarily for Apple TV+ originals, the expanding Peanuts catalog brings real value — particularly for families with children and adults who grew up with these characters. The special’s summer camp setting is perfectly timed for July viewing, when many families are experiencing their own summer adventures.
