Adding a high-speed SSD to the Mac mini M4 just got easier with the Satechi USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure. It can hold up to 8TB drives and transfer data at up to 5 GB per second.
The accessory hit store shelves Tuesday and comes with a 17% launch discount.
Upgrade M4 Mac mini storage with Satechi USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure
With a starting price of $599, the M4 Mac mini is quite affordable. But boosting the built-in 256GB SSD gets expensive. Just going to 512GB costs $200, while the maximum option, 2TB, adds $800 to the price tag.
In contrast, a 2TB NVMe SSD costs about $130. Of course, using this type of drive with a Mac mini requires extra hardware… like the Satechi USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure.
And the plug-in accessory supports drive capacities up to 8TB, which is 4X the maximum capacity available in the base model M4 Mac mini.
As the Mac and Satechi’s new peripheral both support USB4, data transfers happen at up to 5 GB per second. That allows 4K movies to transfer in seconds.
“With the USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure, users can forgo expensive internal upgrades and instead tap into high-speed, on-the-go storage that adapts to their needs,” said Satechi.
Designed for Apple’s tiniest Mac
The M4 Mac mini that launched in autumn 2024 uses a tiny new design, and Satechi shaped its new SSD enclosure to match its dimensions. But don’t think the accessory is limited to one Apple model — it can be used with any Mac and most Windows computers. The enclosure supports Thunderbolt 5, USB4 and older USB-C devices.
Much of the exterior is aluminum, and the accessory is easy to travel, as its braided USB-C cable goes into a hidden compartment.
