If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been checking Software Update a few times every day this week, waiting for Apple to finally dislodge some of its bigger releases from its development pipe: namely, Mac OS X 10.6.5, iTunes 10.1 and iOS 4.2. No luck yet, but according to , all three are imminent… and two of those updates will go live today.

According to sources, Apple will launch Mac OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1 later today, with iTunes 10.1’s debut heralding the release of iOS 4.2 later this week on Friday, which will finally unify the operating systems between the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.

We’ve known for awhile that all of these updates were nearly final: iOS 4.2 GM was seeded to developers on November 1st, and OS X 10.65’s near final beta hit developers a day later.

At this point, even the most ill-sourced rumor about when these updates will drop has a passing chance of being true. Needless to say, though, as soon as OS X, iTunes and iOS get updated and are available to download, you’ll hear about it here.
